RBS Royalties Gold Account (Rant)

We recently changed from a basic current account to a Royalties Gold but I am now wondering if we should have bothered!
Whilst booking a holiday with Thomsons, Royalties were £56 more expensive for us than booking online! They could only book 3 out of 4 of us into the lounge despite us being able to book the lounge elsewhere!
My second rant is that despite them offering 25% off theatre tickets , when went to book some recently they could not honour the deal stating they had none left. We booked through an agent and on going to the theatre there were lots of seats.
Clearly RBS only have a very small allocation which they are willing to give discount on!
We get travel insurance through our work so we would no use that. The only benifit at present looks like Breakdown recovery which I am sure we could get much cheaper and phone insurance (haven't priced this) which again we could probably get cheaper.
I went on recommendation from family but now wonder how much they research their holiday prices before going!
I did have a lengthy conversation about the holiday price and the lounge and all the RBS assistant could say was that the holiday price was cheaper than we would pay in the High Street? Does anyone actually still use the High Street to book holidays?

Go back to a Non-fee current account then it's only a phonecall which will be done straight away!!0

As with all paid-for accounts they are only worth it if the benefits total more than the cost. When I worked for RBS I had Royalties Gold for free, but the only thing I ever used was the theatre tickets (which actually were pretty good, I'd say I got what I wanted around 75% of the time). When I left I ditched the account straight away.0

here is why I am leaving RBS Royalties.
Travel, cheaper booking thriough web by about 10% and of course the charge to phone on a 0870 line!
Travel insurance, a claim for a lost/stolen puse was a nightmare with stupid, and specious questions.
Mobile phones? A joke. RBS moved insurers but did not call me. the service is completely unnaceptable as their terms on replacement. (CCP?)
If you add up "savings" it is indeed cheaper, unless of course you want to actually use them. after my experience after a burglary I had have no choice but to pay the going rate for a profesional service.0 -
Why did you take out the account if it's so unsuitable?0

Before anyone buys one of these accounts (which is what you are doing by paying a monthly fee) you need to be sure that it's good value for money for your purposes.
If you can then prove that the benefits don't materialise I would be inclined to change to a "free" account and claim the fees back.0
