Tesco Credit Card spurious charges

Hi all,
My wife has had lots of problems of late with her Tesco CC. Despite paying the minimum charge every month by a direct debit (which they themselves set up), she randomly finds late payment charges every now and then (3 in last 12 months). We then have to call their 'helpline', explain what's happened and then get a insincere apology and refund.
This so far has been nothing more than an inconvenience. However as we are now buying our first home we have had an issue flagged with our application as, wouldn't you know it, it's happened again this month. We've asked for an explanation in writing to give to the broker and for it to be removed from her credit rating but they assure me this will take 10 days minimum.
After spending 2+hrs in total calling them on their 0845 number and with the possibility of further fees attached to our mortgage application, is there anything we can try and reclaim from them?
Needless to say once the interest free period is over we will be closing the account.

Closing the account is the best thing you can do - I personally have had issues with them and as with my other posts am a very active detractor..
Insincere and their couldn't care less attitude is what finally tipped it for me..Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0 -
Interesting. I have just had a late fee and interest charged. Bit surprised cos payment made on time online. Didnt know they refused the payment and the money went back into my account 5 days later  so i have a fine, interest, money missing from my own account for 5 days and no idea how to stop it happening again. (i have been paying this way for years though bank is now santander rather than alliance and leicester but cant see thats a problem) Tried phoning but it was out of hours.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Have you written to the Financial Ombudsman Service about it? I only ask as I'm considering it and if I compile a list of names it might add more weight.0 -
According to the FOS form I started filling out last week, you need a final answer from them first, not much use when they're barely acknowledging the issue.0
