  • Many thanks. I'm going to try my best to keep it going right through to my discharge day or the end of my IPA, whichever is the latter of the two. :)
  • 20 April - A good day. :) Went home for lunch (trying to save money where I can, plus last night's lasagne had been calling my name all morning :D ) & found my PIN has arrived! :j :j I'm so pleased - I now have fully functioning bank facilities again. Tomorrow I'll go to the post office & put money in the Cashminder account, then I can start getting the remaining direct debits paid up to date & set up the new details. I get paid in about another week, so the PIN has come just in time. My mobile phone company rang yesterday to say the bill hadn't been paid - they were originally going to cut the line off today, but as I told the woman I'd just changed accounts, she gave me until close of business on Monday to pay it. I'll be able to get that done this weekend, so I'm pleased about that too.

Won a week-long argument with Dell this morning. :j I got my laptop a couple of weeks ago, but over the bank holiday (while I was sitting in the garden in bright sunlight) I noticed some smudges/discolouration near the keyboard, so I suspected it had been used by someone else, either a previous customer or for testing. First they wanted me to take photos & send them to them to assess, then they decided they'd replace the laptop with a new one. I pointed out that I should get some compensation, as I was going to have to spend a lot of my time taking loads of data off the current one (using up some of my rapidly diminishing blank dvds). I asked for upgraded memory in the new one, which they refused, then they offered to give me £20 to keep the current one instead of getting a new one. I didn't give up, & we finally agreed on a new laptop with £35 compensation. Maybe I could have got more, as Dell sell their goods under the banner that orders are made up for the specific customer, but I thought getting £35 now was better than spending weeks arguing for more that I might never get. The man told me Dell don't offer compensation so he was having to pay that money out of his own pocket. I replied that he should get his employment contract looked at then, as anyone who pays an employer's costs is daft. :rotfl:

I'm ahead of myself this week for once. Normally I spend a large part of the weekend grumbling about having to do the housework, shopping etc, but I've got everything done already. The housework got done by default as I was looking for statements etc in case the OR contacts me. The shopping got done because I wanted to do it before my travelcard expired, & I did the washing yesterday as soon as I got home. I don't even have to do any real cooking if I don't want to, as I've done batches of casseroles, macaroni cheese & roast chicken, & even I wouldn't complain about washing some salad to go with it. I've got a chores-free weekend. :j Tonight I'll be going to another leaving do - I counted up some of my £1 coins & stopped at £30, which I took to a local shop & got changed into notes, so I'll take that. It's local to home & my travelcard doesn't run out until tonight, so I won't have fares to think about. I intend to enjoy myself. :)

Excellent diary Wherediditallgo! It's going to help me a lot!

Just one question? I'm about to start the process myself - i'm terrified. Would you like to come and stay with me and walk me through it, til it's all over!?!

You seem to have handled everything really well - you should be proud!

Oh, thank you. :) It's not over yet by any means, but I couldn't have got this far without this & other forums like it. You will be fine - people here are very willing to help, so feel free to ask any questions you want. :)
  • 21 April - Last night was such a good night. Everyone got rather hammered, including myself. We went to a pub/restaurant that we hadn't been to for ages for the leaving do, & fortunately/unfortunately they have a 2-hour 'Happy Hour' for 1/2 price cocktails. After 4 strawberry, passionfruit, vodka & lime cocktails, 3 bacardis, 2 white wines, 1 glass of lemonade (bought for me by mistake, but I wasn't going to waste it :D) & 2 orange juices, I was singing my head off & dancing like there was no tomorrow. Finally left there about 12.30am, stopped for a fish burger on the way home (bit late in the day to think of lining my stomach, but there you go) & got to bed around 2am because my friend who was staying the night decided she really needed to watch my Acorn Antiques dvd before going to sleep.
I was awake by 6am this morning. I don't get hangovers so after a breakfast of a croissant & some fresh orange juice I felt fine, while she was still making some very unfeminine snoring noises. My voice was like Phyllis Pearce from Corrie most of the morning, but a leisurely stroll to the post office at 8.40am soon sorted me out, though I was nearly halfway up my road before I realised I still had my slippers on :embarasse & had to go back home to put on my shoes. Had a very light lunch (salmon salad), & I'm going to spend the rest of the day taking it very easy. :)

thanks for your diary. In some ways your circumstances are similar and the emotional rollercoaster of should i /shouldnt I/is it possible to pay these debts/how long would it take/etc etc rings very true to me. My BR date is May 3rd and the stress is beginning to build after months of depression and indecision. Thanks was great to read your experiences:beer:
