milage
Hi All,
I was just wondering what sort of milage I should typically expect to be able to get from a 2008 ford fiesta or indeed most newish cars these days?
I know it will be very much dependant on how well maintained they are; so let assume its serviced by ford each year occording to their schedual.
I typically do about 10-12K a year mostly motorway miles and it done 40K so far.
Also any tips on keeping a car in top condition for longevity much appreciated. Pretty much decided I don't want to get into the perpetual debt cycle of changing cars every few year so what to see how long I can go with this one now its all paid for.

How long is a piece of string?
There is no reason a modern car cannot last 200k+ miles but it needs to be well looked after. But even then there is no guarentee due to all the electrical and computer components that could do strange things.
Best bet is to start with a well looked after car with a full service history and then keep it well maintained, not just thinking it can be driven without any maintenance for a year between services or MOT's0 -
No reason why the car should not reach 200,000+ miles if looked after properly, and given a weekly clean, and garaged overnight.
I think the question you need to ask is "when does it become uneconomical to repair a 2008 Fiesta to keep it on the road?"
That only you can answer that question when your faced with a bill for a new clutch/gearbox/engine etc if it were to fail against the cost of a newer lower mileage car.
If you don't thrash your engine, keep within the service intervals, drive it smoothly and keep it clean and watch out for rust appearing it should last a long time."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
The biggest swap is depreciation for repairs.
Start saving as if you had bought a newer car trading this one in.
Overtime you will use some for extra repairs but build up the replacement funds to buy the next one with cash.
If looked after just about any modern car should be good for 15 years 150k+
Research the common faults and keep a close eye out for those or even preemt repairs.0 -
You've got 41879 miles left.Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.
Got a huge Buzz out of it.0 -
some good thoughts there, thanks.
funky - hoping it will last more than 81879k :-)
getmore- was thinking the very same re saving and then paying cash for the next one,0 -
12,000 miles between servicing is too long. Mine gets an oil change every 4000 to 6000 miles.
Keep to that and virtually every car will do 200,000 miles.
My old petrol mondeo had 150,000+ miles and ran perfectly, Used no oil etc.
Current car is now past 160,000miles.
I buy cars that are just under 5 years old for about £2000 keep them 4 or 5 years and sell for about £1000. So fairly cheap motoring and reliable.
I dont even look at the mileage, I buy on condition and servicing.. Not a stamp in a book but real receipts.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
That's interesting, I had wondered if an oil change every 6 months or so would be better or just a waste.
Somthing I really should learn to do my self!0 -
If you do 1,000 miles a month then yes, an oil and filter change every 6 months isn't a bad idea and doing it yourself will saving you money too. You will only need basic tools depending on your car.
I normally change mine every 8,000 miles."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0
