I don't usually use this forum so I feel a bit rude that my first post is asking for help! I've just had my conran letter and have been looking around for an alternative. The bank of ireland moneyback card seems to fit the bill but I have a couple of questions that I hope you can answer (their customer service dept could too if they answered the phone - I waited 15 minutes on hold and then decided to give up!). So, could anyone tell me....
is the 1% moneyback that Martin's comparison quotes guaranteed or capped
and.....
When does is it credited to the account?
Thanks
Jo

Bank of Ireland card from looking at the website can only be applied for if you live in Ireland, and if you do, you would then have to pay the government tax which negates the benefit of cashback?0

Bank of Ireland also operates in Northern Ireland so anyone in the UK can apply for the card. Just ask for an application form.0 -
thanks for that - boi products are definitely available to english people as we already have a buy to let mortgage with them so that isn't the issue and I'd love to get an application form but I don't want to waste an application if I can't get them to answer my questions first - I have a goldfish card which pays the equivalent of .65% so I'm trying to make sure that they beat that before I apply.0

When does is it credited to the account?Cash Back Conditions:
Earn 0.5% on purchases up to a total of £3,000 and 1% up to a maximum of £19,999 retail spend per year.
This amount will be credited to your account on each anniversary of your account opening date.0 -
Before you get the card, look at the various charges BOI have on the account. When I had the card they charged £5 everytime my card got damaged...:santa2:0

thanks for that - looks like it's back to the drawing board then!!0

I have a BoI Moneyback credit card, and have had no problems with it.
There is NO government TAX to pay on this card if you live in the UK.0 -
Has anyone found a way around the apparently expensive identification procedures if you do not have a local Bank of Ireland Bank branch to take ID into? Requirement of ID confirmation signature by Solicitor etc seems extreme.0

Hi
I have the BoI Gold Moneyback card. I applied online and had confirmation of the application through in a few days. They did require ID to be sent (they actually called me to ask as well as sending a letter) and I got my passport certified in my local RBS branch. As long as it was on headed paper and stamped as a true copy then they were ok with that.
Had no problems so far. Calls have been answered with less than 30 secs on hold and the cashback is a straight 0.5%, rather than the funny way of working it out that Amex use.
My only gripe is that you can only bank online if you have a current account with them but that's not a huge problem.0 -
thanks for the reply - that's really useful. Enjoy your cashback!0
