in Credit cards
I dont know if this is in the right section but have decided to put this here.
My mum used to work before she got sick and was working around 15 hours a week and was around the £5ish per hour. Which helped becuse before my died passed away last year and before she got sick her part time and his full time was good. Anyway my mum had a thing on her card which meant she has been paying so that if she got sick the company would pay towards her credit card bill.
She has been paying between £6 and £25 every month for 5 years, the amount charged every month changes. I asked my mum what this Repayment is on her card every month is (Thats what it says every month). So she phoned up and she found out that this was the people that helped pay her credit card for when she got sick a few years back. The guy said becuse my mum simply told them long ago that she was no longer working, they continue to take payments becuse she never actually asked them to cancel it. My mum said so even though you knew i was not working you still took the money, the guy gave a smart comment and said "well you should not have started using your card again if you knew you could not afford to use it" She then just asked for them 2 cancel her payment thing
Am not sure if any of this makes sense but ive tried anyway. Is there any chance we can get the money back or atleast some of it? as my mum has not worked ever since they helped pay off some of the card long ago. But still charge her this work cover thing every month even though she does not work now. I also think that the amount my mum was getting charged every month is shocking considering she was not even earning that much of a wage.

Yes, it's her reponsibility to explicity tell them if she wants it cancelling. Is there any chance we can get the money back or atleast some of it?
You could ask for their complaints procedure and make a formal complaint in writing. But still charge her this work cover thing every month even though she does not work now. I also think that the amount my mum was getting charged every month is shocking considering she was not even earning that much of a wage.
Yes, agreed it's a rip off.
But she did take out the policy and then she failed to cancel it.
I would ask for the complaints procedure and complain but it's not for them to guess what she wants to do when she's out of work, it's up to her to cancel. The staff in call centers are not paid to guess what people want to do.0 -
Going off the point slightly, did she ever make a claim on this?0

I believe she did.0 -

The guy does actually have a bit of a point here.
The insurance is for expenses that you incurred when you were working that you unexpectedly cannot afford once you become sick.
It is not to cover you for spending whatever you like once you KNOW your income has been reduced.0 -
I think its a difficult tale, and it sounds like your mum isn't having the easiest time of it. It's very common that we see 'payment protection insurance' being paid for by people for whom it doesn't work well.
In a just world after a claim has been made the PPI company would've asked you if you still wanted the cover. Yet its not a just world. I'm glad she's cancelled the policy now.
While there are many cases of misselling, the fact is it seems (and forgive me I had a bit of trouble following it) that the policy did pay out for your mum. Still you could write, include a detail of all the charges over the years and ask for a refund - there is nothing to lose by doing this.
