HELP!!! Egg Card Interest Rate 21.9%

I received an email from Egg stating that the interest rate on my Egg Card would be going up from 16.9% to 21.9% based on how I've "maintained" my account and their assessment of how I've "managed" my finances. The email was dated the 5 March and said it would be effective from the 12 March which is not really a lot of notice. At first I thought that it was a fake email, but just checked my account and it is true. I have written to them asking why the rise is necessary, but don't expect much else. I have tried to get rid of this card before by transferring the balance to a new card, but have been refused. I now intend to check my credit with all 3 companies (Experian, etc), because although I do have other cards, I have not defaulted on any and make regular payments and on time. Does anyone have any other ideas, because this is my opportunity to get away from Egg for once and for all. My debt with them is about £3,000 and I was paying £80 a month but have just increased this to £120.

Same thing has just happened to me with my TSB Card. I've managed to balance transfer some to my Capital One Card (no transfer fee and low life of balance interest), but that's now at the limit.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
