Do I need insurance for catalogue distribution with Wikaniko?
I'm worried about if someone has an allergic reaction to a product, or hurts themselves on something they buy?
I have just joined, but not sold anything yet or taken any catalogues round! I am technically self employed. I emailed Wikaniko about this and they said that I didn't need insurance for catalogue distribution, but I would need public liability insurance if I had a stall.
However I am concerned about this after talking to my Dad who is very good with these things, as the terms and conditions don't make it clear, other than this:

You may need to inform your home insurers of your new business to make sure your insurance cover is not affected by running a business/office from your home.
Check that your home contents insurance will cover the maximum amount of products that you are likely to keep there.
If you use your car in relation to your Wikaniko business to carry around stock, go to local Home Meetings or events and visit customers or potential recruits, you may have to adjust your vehicle insurance accordingly.
Taxes, VAT etc
As a Wikaniko distributor you are an independent contractor, totally responsible for your own business activities.
If you are an employer, your personnel are your employees and will not, for any purpose whatsoever, be considered employees or agents of Wikaniko.
Distributors are not employees or legal representatives of Wikaniko. You must not represent in any manner that you are an agent, employee or legal representative.
You as a distributor have no authority to legally bind the Company or its officers, directors or employees to any obligation, or to make representations or warranties on behalf of the Company.
As an independent contractor, you are responsible for your own activities including the amount of time and effort you choose to devote to developing your Wikaniko business, without direction or control by the Company, and for any expenses which result from their business activities. Wikaniko will not be liable for any claims, damages or liabilities arising out of your business activities whatsoever."

I can't see how you would need PL. if someone has an allergic reaction, or is injured by a product, you won't be held liable for that - it would be the manufacturer.
In terms of liabilities under 'business activities' this would be say a contractural position between you and a customer, eg if y
Mrs Smith paid you £100 to supply her with goods and you ran off with the money, then what they are saying is that hey won't be liable for that. Mrs Smith would have to pursue you for breach of contract, not Wikaniko.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Your car insurance will need business cover, and you would need to check with your home insurer regarding the business use of your home, and the cover for stock etc stored at home.
If you have cover for items like phones/computers, read their ts + cs as some policies exclude cover if they are used for business.0 -

Hi I'm an independent Wikaniko Distributor and Wikaniko HQ have all the necessary product compliances and insurances required, each product has a batch number on it and the Wikaniko HQ sticker. If you are going to have lots of stock at home then its best to let your insurance company know but the beauty of brochure distribution is you don't need to have masses of stock at home and if you give good customer service it won't be in your house very long. We only place orders when we have a customer order and on most occasions we deliver it as soon as the order arrives, our vehicle is covered for Business use as hubby uses it for his Business anyway so we just notified them.
DebbieWe love what we are doing and we love why we're doing it!!0
