I'd suggest looking in your local paper - mine always has comapnies advertising theatre packages to london, including travel either by train or coach.

you could, with a little planning, easily do it yourself (thats what we're doing from the Midlands to London in August).

The cheapest train fares come out around 12 weeks before travel, and you could keep an eye out on the Grabbit board for London hotel sale dates, including Tune hotels, Travelodge, Premier Inn, etc etc. There are sites like Saga, ticketmaster, Expedia, who sell discounted theatre tickets, its just a case of keeping an eye on them too.

This way you're not laying out loads of money all at once (ie for our trip I got a Tune hotel booked in March I think, booked the train tickets last week, and we have Tesco days out vouchers for use on the Original open-top tour bus). Because we're travelling by train, we can also use the London 241 offers (theres a whole website for this), for more entertainment/attraction/restaurant deals.

So far, with our hotel, train tickets, and tour bus practically paid for, its costing us £50 total for one night and 2 days in the Capital.

  • Agree with the poster above.. Check virgin fare finder and book as soon as 12 weeks from returning date arrives. Have a fiddle with stations, it was cheaper for us to pay a normal fare to a station an hour away and then go from there to London instead of going direct from our nearest station ( we saved approx £80 by doing this)

I have heard that those top secret hotels do really good deals but I've never done it myself.

We stayed at the holiday inn Watford junction... 2 mins from Watford station and 20 mins into Euston. I always get best deals using this link
(for all holiday inns not just Watford) And you can either pay when you book to get the cheapest rate or for a couple of ££s more you hold the room and pay as you check out x
