I was transferred from Income Support to ESA, I was told originally i should have been on IB, but as I was a single parent it was easier to keep me on IS. (powers to be and all that).
As soon as I went onto ESA I had to produce a sick note, my GP gave me a sicknote for 6 months, - but the DWP will only accept the 1st sick note as 3 months, so in your case you need
1 - sicknote for 3 months (being backdated 2 months) I know thats going to leave 1 month as sick,
2. I would also ask for a new sick note covering from now (doesn't matter that it will cross over for a month) at this point you can submit a 6 month sicknote.
During this time you maybe asked to go for a medical, until you have an answer either way - yes your entilted to ESA (then which group your in) at which point you don't need sick notes, or they say your fit for work and your be transferred to JSA.xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
OP, think of it like this.
On IS you didn't have to submit sick notes because it was deemed that you were already unfit for work (I remember though that when I first claimed IS, for the first few months I did have to submit sick notes until I was moved to a "long-term" rate or something. I wasn't put on IB because I didn't have enough NI contributions and IS was the alternative for those too ill to work but without the contributions.)
When you get transferred over to ESA, if you are successful, it's almost like a continuation of your existing benefit but with a different name (and different criteria to meet in some respects). However, if you are found fit for work, you need sick notes (now called "fit notes") from your GP to prove that you are unfit for work and to get a basic rate until your appeal is heard.
That's my take on it anyway but yes, you do have to submit sick notes whilst waiting for appeal. Those who are coming onto ESA from scratch have to, and those transferring have to if they fail their medical and are found fit for work too.2019 Wins

I did as well.
I have received a PM from SidP asking me to keep my thoughts and opinions either to myself or PM - unfortunately Sid either has PMs turned off or is not able to accept them as a newbie.
Therefore, I'll carry on posting on the thread

Wow, That’s nasty.
I thought the OP was coming over as a snippy moo. However decided that may not be the case. Text can be tricky....
So there you go, I was right the first time. Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -
