You still haven't answered my question, why should I as a taxpayer pay for your children?

Mmmmmm........... A quick look at your posts reveal that you are not adverse to letting the tax payer pay in some instances though. No doubt you will have your own reasons for this but 'pot calling.........' springs to mind.

Perhaps it is time you stopped making these kind of comments.

Now I have been naughty and commented about something which has nothing to do with the original OP.

I will forgive myself as I, at least, try to answer queries in a non judgemental way. :D

The same reason taxpayers will be paying your state pension.

The same reason my tax money will pay for your hospital care when you have a coronary from overzealous posting about housing benefits.

Generally, (and assuming her capital (savings/investments) are less than 6k) a lone parent with 2 kids will get approx £220 per week in Income Support, Child benefit and Child tax credits.

When the youngest turns 5, she will be moved onto Job Seekers Allowance but the benefit sum remains the same.

She will get free school meals for the kids, receive a full council tax discount and any child support you pay is on top of all these benefits - it doesn't impact them.

You can double check her entitlements on the Turn2us online benefit calculator.

If she is named on the mortgage and it has equity she may not get some benefits as decreed as capital - depends on the value of the home etc - It may be better for her to stay in it.

No CSA won't look at your payments.

Are you still living in the house?
If not, your wife should start her claim for Income Support as a lone parent:

Have either of you sought legal advice?
If not, it's a good idea to think about that at this stage.

Your wife may be entitled to Legal Aid.

Solicitors will probably recommend a series of Mediation sessions, in these you will go through access for the children and financial affairs.
You will need to both disclose your financial details including debts, savings and pensions.
Are you aware that your wife may be entitled to a portion of your pension?

This link tells you about SMI (Support for mortgage Interest), there is a 13 week waiting period:

This calculator will give you an idea of how much you will be expected to pay in child maintenance:
