Holiday to Egypt (All Inclusive)

I was looking for some advice. We're going to Egypt in a few weeks and it's the first time we've been all inclusive. I don't want to spend too much when I'm over there so was wondering how much money people would suggest taking. There'll just be me, my husband and my boy. Hopefully we can do a couple of trips but it's our first big holiday in the last 10 years. I'm quite happy to spend a fair bit of time by the beach. I was in egypt about 10 years ago but am so out of touch with holidays as other than the odd couple of weeks here and there, all our holidays have been in this country.

Sorry this sounds like a stupid question but I want to stick to a budget, enjoy my holiday and not worry about being completely skint when I get home.

Which hotel and resort area are you staying?

Visit the tripadvisor sharm el shiekh forum as lots of help there.

Depending on the hotel, you shouldnt have to spend anything at all - just take £20 in £1 coins to tip the staff here and there and your service will be better.

Dont pay anywhere near asking price for any excursions whilst there.

We just returned from sharm last week from 10 days all inclusive, as the above poster suggests u can get away with just change for tipping if youre not planning on going anywhere.
We took 200 which included money for 2 trips we had booked up online before going and knowing as we had been before that we would want to buy "designer" goods. The kids (3 of them) had bout 120 spending money between them. Swhich they spent too.

We had planned to do trips and shopping this time hence taking spending money we did infact need to get more more money out as hubby found airmax trainers for 27 pound and couldnt resist for him and eldest son!

Enjoy ur holiday im so jealous I want to go back x

We're going to the Tropicana Club Azure at Naama Bay. The only thing food wise that isn't included is ice cream:huh:. I had thought about doing the glass bottomed boat or submarine and one other trip. They look so expensive for Cairo - just can't justify it on a budget. Will go to the bank for a load of coins and hopefully £200 will cover it.

    Thanks for the advice.

Buy glass bottom / submarine when you get to beach at Naama - and haggle a little too.

Remember that the blue/white minibuses are only 1 EGYPTIAN POUND (10p) to use. Some longer routes are 20p. Be brave and try them. :D

You can get a (very long) day trip to Cairo by bus for around £40 per person - BUT you will be travelling thru night to get there (6-8 hrs) with a guide for the day and then that long bus journey back. Worth it if you can sleep on bus, I can't.

You should be able to get a taxi to Fantasia (nice evening out) for 25 Egyptian each way (roughly £2.50). Buy entrance ticket when you get there as much cheaper.

Check the tripadvisor forum for full details.

There's nothing like putting a few quid into the local economy is there?;)

When we did this we got a number of requests from the hotel staff to change the pound coins (when they had collected 10 or 20) into notes as they couldn't change the coins into local currency at the bank - only notes.

Normally, I would agree with you 100% Alex.

We could never understand why people didnt just tip a 10 EGP note (worth roughly £1).

However, they WANT foreign currency at moment and will always find someone (a guest) to change it for them.
