OS wedding gift?

Does anyone have any advice on a nice present to give which is OS, and not a card with cash in it? Most people seem to be giving cash but I would like to give something thoughtful but also not go way out of my budget for it :o

what's your budget and do you have any skills and the time to make something? an embriodery of with their names and the date might be nice esp if you can colour match their decor.

I like to go "off list" for pressies where possible and many of my friends did for our wedding - one lovely gift we received was two heart shaped semi precious stones in a lovely box and another was a tray made with lucky seed pods from south america. also, my best friend took lots of photos on the day and made a lovely album for us as we didnt have a pro photographer. some friends gave us US dollars to spend on our honeymoon which was a lovely thought.

perhaps something very old style from an antique shop like a letter opener, sugar sifter or pickle spoon in a nice box? or a nice book or box to put recipes in (phoenix trading do a nice index style box).

Maybe a hamper of some description, with bits in for each of them - wine, bubble bath, scented candles, chocolate, dvd, popcorn? A recipe book with the necessary ingredients to make a special meal with the relevant pages bookmarked?

I was given a beautiful stoneware fruit bowl as one of my wedding presents which is lovely because it is always out on the side to be seen, and ofc is very useful.

Not sure if this helps but one thing I frequently do for wedding gifts which is inexpensive is to create a memory box of the day. So things like a copy of the times newspaper from the day of the wedding, the order of service, name cards for the bride and groom from the top table, copies of speeches and any readings from the service (people do often look at you like you're mad when asking for them but always happy to hand over when you explain why). Wedding table favours, a cork from the reception, button holes etc are good too. Ive also put in a small bottle of bubbly and sometimes a little album/ frame too.

Not sure if that helps but it's always gone down well for me as its stuff you forget to keep on your own wedding day but nice to look back through it.
  • One thing I have done in the past is to look on websites like 'Not on the highstreet' and look at some of the stuff on there. Now some stuff is gorgeous but quite alot is just ridiculOusly overpriced. Something like a map of somewhere meaningful to the couple, cut into a heart shape and framed. Really simple to do if you're even a little bit creative.

Don't know if thats any help, (they do it for weddings), unusual as youve got the tradational element of the coat of arms of the surnames, and also ties in with the wedding the marrying of the names.

Its not framed, maybe you could add a frame,

i've just ordered one for my parents golden wedding anniversary present. x

Make them a voucher for a dinner out for their very first anniversary :)

Gives you 12 months to put a few quid away per month and gives them a gift that probably nobody has thought of ;) xx

One idea I have used a few times, for weddings, birthdays, wedding anniversaries and retirement gifts is to buy a rose bush. There are many with appropriate names to suit the occasion. I then give them a rose bud vase to go with it, either cut glass or silver plate perhaps. This has always been well received

I think this is a lovely idea and I would be over the moon if someone got me something like this. We dabble in collectables and it is quite easy, with a bit of leg work, to find something unique and gorgeous for very little money, particularly if you don't mind cleaning something up.

Exactly what you get obviously depends on what your friends like.
