Water tinkling noise after we use toilet

Options
Hello everyone, I hope that I explain this ok and that I don't get too many toilet-humour comments!!

We've suffered a series of leaks lately, we lost a ceiling as a result and our floorboards are/were creaking so please forgive me for asking stupid questions and being a bit paranoid.

A couple of months back our toilet was found to be leaking (when part of the ceiling underneath came down). The plumber said it was due to an old swan neck which he replaced and that sorted out the leak. It may have been something else too, it was the OH who spoke with him.

However, now, every time you wee you can hear just after, the sound of trickling water- it starts a few seconds after you have 'been'. Is this normal or something I should be concerned about and investigate further? It's never been the best toilet - it sometimes takes several flushes to completely clear the bowl and takes quite a while to fill in case this helps.

All advice appreciated.

There's a quantity of water which sits in the base of the pan, and forms an airtight seal between you and the drains. This has a certain level, depending on the maker's design of U-bend.

You're adding to this quantity of water on the bathroom side, and because water finds its own level, the equivalent to what you're putting in has to disappear on the other side.

So I'd suggest that what you're hearing is the excess of the U-bend water trickling away down the waste pipe.

Possibly the changes in the waste pipe made by the most recent plumber have changed the acoustics of the pipe to make it more apparent to you now. It'll always have been happening in the past, just that you haven't noticed it before now.

Does your cistern have an internal overflow - could be that
You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow

All modern cisterns have an internal overflow but if the cistern was overflowing you would see water running into the pan without flushing it.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

And if you have a water meter and water running into the pan get the flushing mechanism changed asap.

A trickling toilet is the main reason for increased water bills.

With a thread title like that, I'm surprised that there haven't been any funnies.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
