Husband under threat of redundancy

I am sorry to say this is the first time I've ever had to look at this board
My husband is under threat of redundancy. Basically 3 jobs are being condensed into one. My H is going to apply for the job. However I have a question......if he is offered the job but declines it will he still be eligible for redundancy?
I appreciate a job is a job and in all likelihood he would accept but hypothetically where would he stand?
TIA

Why would he think of declining it?
I don't know the law but if one of the three were to end up with the job, even if it were offered to him and he said no, I think there would be a case for still getting redundancy.
If all three were offered the new job and all said no, I guess you could all potentially leave without redundancy.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

Because who ever gets the job will be handed a poisoned chalice basically. Given the sheer amount of work his department deal with there is no way one person can do it all. If the salary (which hasn't been divulged yet) was a significant drop we might be better off taking the redundancy pay as due to length of service he would be in line for a reasonable amount. I just want to keep our options open that's all hence asking the question.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

1. Why would there be a drop in salary for the new job? Their savings would come from the people who have left. (I agree that if the job were advertised that it may be advertised at a lower salary).
2. The company going forward would presumably be structuring the new job in a way that it is one experienced person's job, although of course adapting to the role may take time. Everybody always thinks that their job culd not be condensed, but if it has to be, it has to be. It isn't necessarily a poisoned chalice.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Redundancy denotes a reduced need or capacity for work, therefore there should not be additional work for those left behind (a naive view I know, but technically and legally the case).0

If the job left is the same one or a suitable alternative then if you decline you have resigned and no redundancy payment is due.
Be carefull of applying for the job before you are officialy on notice to be redundant without being sure of the T&C and if you would take.
AIUI you are not covered by the suitable alternative rules untill you are on notice before then it is just like any other job aplication.0 -
A good overview here including being offered an alternative job:

When does being officially on notice take place? He's been informed he's "at risk" and has until tomorrow to apply for sole remaining job created in the restructure. They will then make a decision by mid July.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

When you get notice of termination by reason of redundancy.
With out the terms of the job you need to be carefull applying.
The people involved need to get this to be done as a selection process for the remaining job as part of the consultation process.
If it is a new one ask for all the terms and conditions so you can see if you consider it to be a suitable alternative.0
