Bathroom Flooring

Hi all,
I am looking at removing my bathroom carpet and laying some sort of vinyl (cheaply as money is a bit tight). I know that I can't put vinyl on top of the floorboards (I can see the cracks between the floorboards through the carpet) but I'm not sure what i need to lay first. I have read a few threads but they are not very clear on the type of wood that i need to lay. What exactly would i need? What size? Do i buy small boards or one large board and cut to size? Where can I get it from? (preferably B&Q/homebase etc as these are local). Do I lay it up to the bath or remove the bath panel and go underneath? I'm not a DIY expert but I will have a go at anything myself.
I also think that I may need to replace/fix a couple of floorboards on my landing. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

You need to lay a sheet of hardboard. They come in 8ft x 4 ft sheets (2.4m x 1.2m). Lay it as. Single sheet if you can. Going up to the bath panel is ok. Use 20mm panel pins to secure it as they won't penetrate under the floor boards and cause any damage to pipe work etc.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

i have to disagree with phil on one point, if the bath panel has no upward movement then you need to remove it & run the hardboard & vinyl under the panel then refit the panel (this may now need trimming at the bottom), because if you do as phil said you may never be able to lift the panel up to remove it in the future.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

You're right.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
It is much easier to install several smaller sheets than one large one. Especially if you are inexperienced in cutting and handling materials and working in a confined space as most bathrooms seem to be nowadays.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Where would i get these from? I think that working with smaller sheets would be easier than having to cut one large one. What thickness would you need and where would you get them from?0
