Why not ask on Freegle / freecycle for a hotplate / boiling ring / camping gas stove? If you briefly explain your problem and ask nicely you'd be surprised what people will offer you!
None of those are ideal in the long term as they are anything but economical to run, but would be good enough at the moment for the odd few things that can't be done with the microwave, slowcooker & oven.

I'm going to try the greens in the microwave.
I don't want to spend money on a bit of kit I don't need long term, I have two saucepan top steamers, and they more than meet my needs normally. I'd rather save towards a hob.
I might try to get my head round the idea of asking on freecycle - both the problem of learning how to use the site and the idea of being the recipient.
I've also thought that maybe Aga recipes might be useful - don't they focus on using the oven rather than the hotplates?
