Buyer asked for free postage

I have been selling a few bits and pieces on ebay and thought I would try a Buy it now on a item I was selling . The postage was the exact amount on the ebay postage calculator and less than some other sellers with the same item. (£4.30)
I then received a message asking if I would send it for free if she bought it now . Is that how BIN work?
I wasn't sure so changed it back to auction only but the person didn't bid even though the price was a fraction of the BIN.
What do people do when asked for free postage?

I would say "Yes" you can have free postage but I want cash when you collect it in person.
They are really asking for a discounted price and that would depend on whats the minimum price you would accept to sell the item.
You could add the postage cost to your auction price and then offer free delivery on your listing.0 -
There are many sellers offering free postage because their p&p DSRs are getting trashed since the prices went up in April. So the buyer is taking a cheeky chance. I would consider it if the item was over £20 on a BIN, but I have got lots of items to list and am keen to get shot of stuff..but it would also depend on what you are happy to get for the item.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

What's wrong with soeone asking? The worst you can do is say no...........Maybe go back with a slight discount.0

A lot of people with BIN offer best offer, if you hadn't they may have thought it was similar to best offer.
People will often make cheeky offers & that's how I would have seen it & just refused.0
