Halifax charges

Options
Hi all,

I am looking for some advice on what to do.

In 2009 I left to go abroad to travel the middle east. Before I left I had paid my overdraft in full.

I came back in 2011 only to find that I now owe £353!?!?!

I looked through my statements and found that I was charged £1.50 debit interest. And because of not having funds in my account all this time, it has now shot up to £353.00

I called halifax who says that the account is now closed. I have also called their collections department who says that we are no longer dealing with your account and that I now need to speak with their solicitors.

Halifax has also put a mark on my credit report of "Default" for several months.

Can anyone please advise me on where I should go from here and how I can clear my history with Halifax?

Thanks for looking!

What a pity you didn't have anyone trustworthy enough to check on your mail while you were away.

Try writing to them explaining the circumstances and see if they might be willing to cancel or reduce the debt. Your only other alternative would be to pay up.
