Hotpoint washing machine - help needed!

We currently have a secondhand Hotpoint washing machine which occasionally stops mid-draining meaning we have to either wait for it to drain away by itself or open the door and try and catch as much water as possible! OH thinks that restoring the factoy settings might solve the problem but we can't find out how to do this, can anyonne help?
