What currency to take to turkey

Hiya Sorry if i have asked this before but i'm off to Alayna in August and i am so confused as to which currency to use. I was thinking of taking all sterling and changing it over there. Or shall i take some euro and lira? Also is it probably wise to take travellers cheques for security purposes? I also don't possess a credit card.

Thanks

I didn't think the standard currency in Turkey was the Euro, still the Lira?

You will need cash sterling to enter the country for the visa at the airport so check that out.
Last time I went I took a mix of sterling and lira without problems.

Sterling or get a decent debit card such as Metro Bank's offering.

Otherwise, see the Cash Passport Globe thread. You can order it and pick it up with four hours notice.
  • We went two weeks ago and had all lira with no trouble, the places that were priced in euro soon change there mind if they though that you would not buy and took lira

We go every year and always take sterling, no problem changing it

One thing to watch out for is the flight over, my wife went about a month ago and everything on the plane was priced in euros, when paying in sterling they didn't give any change. So if something was priced 5 euros and you gave them a £5 note it worked out expensive

£Sterling Cash. Tenner on arrival for your visa. Join the visa queue before immigration.
Two hour+ drive to Alanya from Antalya airport, so make sure you've got some water (expensive at Antalya Airport).
Alanya is quite a nice place, Cleopatra Beach is best.

Martin has recommended some prepaid Mastercard/Visa's on the newsletter last week.

The one that came out the best was Fairfax which I applied for on Thursday and came on Saturday! You can load money on to it online, so I shall do that before we go away (good way of saving it too!).

Don't change much before you go.
You'll get a much better rate once you arrive, and Dovis (change shops) are everywhere.
