Hello all,
I have just received a letter from Comet about my laptop one year warranty expiring and do I wan't to pay for extra etc.
It runs out in a week and I was wondering is it possible for me to take it into Comet/send it before then and they could maybe repair/replace it as it is quite slow and keeps burning up. The battery only lasts for around 40 minutes when fully charged and this is despite me removing it whenever using the Laptop (Dell) at home.
Is this just a standard issue or would they look into it for me?
It's just that the warranty runs out in a week and IF they would repair/replace obviously I want it done before this happens. Just thought I would ask on here as I could look stupid even trying to send it off over this issue for all I know!
Thanks

ofcourse you have the right to do so. mine was having exactly the same issue, called comet and they refered me to the manufacturer as it was still under 1 year old. I have then contacted HP and they prepare a collection from my flat. They came, took it, replaced the old fan and made a full check on it and returned it to me like a NEW. So, my advice to you is yo contact Comet now rather than later.0

Hi
Just a small point your contract is with Comet not the manufacturer it is their job to handle any repairs on your behalf whilst under guarantee, but I'm sure you already know that."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0 -
Battery will not be covered after 6 months as there classed as a comsumable and usual cause of slow running is a software problem, have yu tried to do a factory restore as that will be the first thing that will be done If sent off for repair unless the fan is not running then a repair will be done0

- Buy an extended battery for the unit
- Fully charge it and remove the power cable from the unit when in use (do leave the power cord plugged in at all times)
- You're good to go.0 -
Hello Ironman1,
There are a number of problems with Dell laptops and whilst the overheating could be caused by a blocked fan or a blocked grill on the heatsink it could also be caused by a problem with the GPU (Graphical Processing Unit).
The battery problem is a different kettle of fish and Comet will probably aver that the battery is a consumable item and is susceptible to failure by incorrect charging.
Incorrect charging occurs when the laptop is placed on charge before the battery is fully depleted.
If you can let me know the model of your laptop then I will advise further.
Best wishes
Paul

I need a new battery for my laptop. I didn't realise that if you didn't charge them correctly they would deteriorate. Now its is really bad and doesn't last long at all!0

Can you say that again, so that *I* can understand it :undecided0 -
I'm pretty sure he meant
don't leave the power cord plugged in at all timesHow do I add a signature?0 -
Ah the joys of Macbook Pros and corporate grade laptops where you can leave them plugged in most of the time to no detrimental effect.
Once you get to around £1000 for a laptop, the batteries and the charging circuitry is in a whole different league.0
