i changed from british gas and powergen to duel fuel from scottish power online.
i received a letter this mornig saying their prices are going up but i can pay £2.50 a month to cap the price.
my question is-can they do this and is this still a good deal?

i think most suppliers are putting up their prices

and yes, they can do this aslong as they giv u enough notice :mad:

theres nothing to stop u from shopping around to find a better deal tho

IMO i think paying to cap your prices is a bit of a rip off
its more or less guaranteeing the company that u will stay with them for the capped period
and why should you do that and pay for the pleasure?

its just an insurance really - i'd rather put the £2.50 a month in a jar

I'm in exactly in the same boat as the first poster..moved to Scottish Power on line dual fuel a year ago from British gas and Powergen...Are Scottish Power still a good deal???...To be honest for the sake of a few quid a year I can't be bothered to change again with all the hassle of meter readings/cancelling/setting up new direct debits and the potential for things going pear shaped!!

£2.50 per month "capping" charge, possibility of having cheaper fuel too, against at most a couple of hours "work"? I'd swap.

I'm with Scottish Power too. Been on their capped "Premier Plus" package since December. (Capped untill December 31st 05) Lo and behold I get a letter this morning anouncing my gas is being increased from tomorrow, 24hrs notice. Now I have the hassle of sorting this out, but sort it I will either myself or with the aid of Energy Watch.
Now I believe the restrictions on price matching for original suppliers have been removed, it might be time for me to look again at Southern Electric. At least their customer service is among the best.

I too have received this letter this morning.I believe it's just a con really for them to increase their income.It's just another way of ripping off the consumer.If the price with SP goes up horrendously I will look around to change to a better deal.

Got my letter today as well, only changed a few months ago. Not really sure if it's much cheaper elsewhere.Am pretty brassed off :mad: with SP.
