NPower and IGT networks

Recently moved into a new house and have just had a letter from NPower saying that as my gas is delivered via a Independent Gas Transportation Company "IGT" network, which it says is usually found on new housing estates, I have to pay more on a higher tariff. Anyone ever heard of this, and do other companies charge a higher tariff? Thanks.

Please note some companies have exceptions to the charge if you are on certain tariffs, such as I think Powergen has one, so it's always worth asking your provider if they have any.

As pointed out there are certain products offered that mean you don't have to pay the surcharge.

IGTs are an absolute nightmate - If you change suppliers be prepared for a wait to get a final bill and dependant on what network your on (So the actual shipper) you may find you can't ever have a Gas PrePayMent meter ever as well.
