Is there any way to stop someone from PERMANENTLY being able to get credit cards? A relative has had a serious head injury and is under the court of protection for his finances and his wife is his deputy. He is always getting new cards and running up more debts and if he carries on this way, won't be able to pay them. Can anyone help???

Ask her to write to the major credit reference agencies who could put a note on his credit files.
Is the relative working? If not how is he getting cards?0 -
We did this with Experian in January and his wife has found 3 more credit cards all issued last month. No he doesn't work anymore due to his injury0

They're from Barclaycard, Marks and Spencer and Nationwide, she doesn't know how much the limits are on them as he hides the letters as soon as they come through the door. What is a CIFAS note?
Thanks0 -
In a word, no. No third party (unless they have full Power of Attourney) cannot affect or modify any Credit File with information that could affect the data that is held. I understand that this is for the protection of the data subject, but any attempt at doing so would leave the well-meaning individual open to accusations of tampering and fraud.
Just think of the mayhem anyone could instigate my saying they were acting in the best interests of the data subject. Yes, right - What a superb practical joke that would take years to unravel. Without a CoA or the Court of Protection, they would not act on any information provided. As for CIFAS, the same rules apply.0 -

I agree - contact the big 3 credit reference agencies with copies of the Order - ask them to put a note on his credit files explaining the reasons.0

I believe a CIFAS marker on the account at least stops auto-accepts, and forces the lender to look manually at the file.
That, combined with a note on all three credit files could be useful.
Would it also be worth writing to all the credit card companies you can find, explaining why they shouldn't accept him?0
