£300 Adminsitration Fee for 3 months

We are completing on the house we are selling and moving into rented accommodation this week for 3 months, while we wait to complete on our phurchase property (we are buying a part exchange property.)

We went a view a short term let a couple of weeks ago and decided to go for it. We where told when we veiwed it that we had to pay a £200 holding deposite and on the day we move in we had to pay 1 months rent plus £100 for the deposite and the first months rent. After paying the £200 and having the credit checks done we have now recieved what we have to pay and thy have included a £300 Admin fee:eek: . We where not told at anytime about this fee and TBH i'm completly !!!!ed off about it. I'm now guessing this must be a charge for doing the credit checks, £150 each??? We told them when we filled in the application that my DH would be paying the whole rent because I earn pittance as I only work part time (don't even earn enough to cover the rent) I then had to do all the chasing around for letsure as they faxed my work but they didn't receive it. Then after all that they turn round and say we can have it as long as DH pays 100% of the rent:rolleyes: Therefore no need to credit check me.

I really think £300 for 3 possibly 4 months is completly rediculous.

I cant help but thinking that "admin" fees, agreement fees or call them what you like fees are about to become very common. In 2 weeks time landlords will be obliged to subscribe to deposit holder schemes which are looking to be very unpopular amongst landlords and so alternatives are being looked into.
Personally I think it is a complete nonsense, and the law should be tailored to targeting rogue landlords and not merely taxing the law abiding ones....
