I hope someone can help me. i recently had a direct debit fail to go through because I was £1.50 short. Obviously, because of this, Nationwide have charged me £30. This is my first fine since I've been with them (almost a year).
Is there any way I could get them to drop the charge and if so how do I approach it. Please help as I can't really afford a fine like this
    Total Debts: £1,500
    Total Cashback Received: £3,965.21:beer:

For the odd one off charge sometimes all thats needed is a phonecall. Explain it doesnt normally happen and ask for it to be refunded. If your account is run well at other times sometimes the bank is sympathetic and will refund a charge on this basis.

    good luck :)

Im just wondering before I proceed any further where I will stand. I dont have an overdraft because I cancelled it to avoid paying such high charges (17.5%) and last month according to the atm i was using, i had 28.36 in credit but could only withdraw 10 because i was assuming the rest was on a card transaction....... withdrawing that £10 put me £3.50 in debt so within 3 days i credited the account so it was back in credit. This week i recieved a statement that says I will be charged £28 for being £3.50 in debt for 3 days......is it worth me fighting my side or not, should i just pay it? Thanks in advance

Apart from the charges issue, get the overdraft back (if you can). You thought 17.5% was a high interest rate, you've seen what they will try and charge you without an overdraft limit.

If its a one off charge, try phoning them as above, if you think you have had more charges over the past six years then read Martin's article and ask for your information/statements by sending off the first letter and follow the step by step guide.

  • I have just gone over drawn for the first time with Lloyds TSB. I was overdrawn by £15 for 3 days. They have charged me £30 according to my statement. Looking for advice on whether to pay up or should I write to them saying its unlawful and I shouldn't have to pay that much?

Hi every one, wicked forum! erm basically just wondering if anyone can help me or give me any advice really...

ive recently recieved a letter from my bank (halifax) advising me that i have occurred 2 charges at 30 pound each for going over my overdraft limit.

my argument against it is that i checked my balance before work on tuesday 10th april and realised i had around 10 pound left in my available balance. however, not knowing a debit card transaction was still waiting to go through on my account from a transaction at whsmith on the 7th april. during my lunch break from work i popped to tescos knowing i had a little left on my avail balance to get some lunch, all went through as expected. now on wednesday 11th april i checked my account online and it shows that the whsmith transaction didnt go onto my account until 10th, which obviously made me go over my OD limit b4 i spent in tescos. what i dont get is why 99% of transactions on my card the amount almost immediatly come off my available balance. so wen i checked tuesday morning i had already assumed that that spend in whsmith had come off. it soo frustrating.

And they have the cheek to charge me 60 pound. i have just got off the phone to them and all they can do is stop one charge going through. im really not happy about this! i know 30 pound isnt alot but its a bloody night out!!

can anyone give me any advice abnout where i stand with somehting like this and with out going through sending all these letters on this website to reclaim.

    thanks!!

    Garry:confused:

for this small amount I would go to the bank and ask for it back. Make sure they know you are willing to go to small claims should they not be willing to refund. Good Luck
Stick to YOUR timescale. Dont take ANY bull. DONT be intimidated. The law is on OUR side.
:o Feel free to thank me if I was a help :o

What shall i do ? I accidently went overdrawn with one of my HSBC accounts becuase of a paypal payment which came out of that bank. I initially thought i had the money in the account becuase i had withdrawn some cash from paypal the previous day.

BEcuase i went overdrawn of £40 (which is now back to £0 the following day becuase of paypal payment went in ) they have sent me a letter saying they are charging me £25.

Shall i pay this or what ? i am not sure of what to do. Look forward to some advice.
    Thanks.
