Anyone know about Beds!

I want to buy a new double bed for DD.

It has to have 2 drawer storage.

She would like memory foam topping but I've seen Silentnight pillowtop on line and wondering what that is.

Budget £300

DD is a lightweight and will only be living at home for a year before off to uni.

Considering these

Any help/advice appreciated.

Thanks

Looking at the prices of the beds you have short listed, if it is only going to be used for about a year and then only as a guest bed I would go for the cheapest.

I've never liked the no turn mattress as they have been sold as a plus point when in fact it helps reduce the costs to the manufacturer as less padding materials are added. From experience the bases of the Silentnight divans should be stronger with more structural support but that should not make any difference to you.

I would always advise trying a bed out before buying it - always used to find it funny that people would spend ages looking and for a new sofa but 5 minutes without even lying on a bed that they will spend about 8 hours a night in.

Spent this afternoon trying out beds. Very limited choice of stores here. Two independents (at top and bottom of market) and the overpriced Dreams!

The 1st one isn't even a real pillow top, they have just stitched an extra tape edge along the boarder to make it look like a pillow top.

2nd one is slightly better but 20mm of memory foam on top of an open coil spring is not much use.

    3rd is ok but it's only a miracoil 3.

You should able to get a pocket sprung bed for nearly that kind of money.

I disagree about the strength of the Silentnight bases, lifting them in the warehouse they are the lightest of any divan base I have ever know.

1 sided mattresses will only be better if you never turn a mattress. A double sided turned regularly will last longer.

Or this one is a cracker http://www.bedswarehouse.co.uk/deep-sleep-silk-1000-double-divan.html

Pocket springs for support, 25mm of memory foam for a little added comfort.

50-70mm memory would be better, but that would push your budget up somewhat.

    Good luck.

ooh I don't know what to do now.:rotfl: I'm so tempted to push the budget up! I did it with the new wardrobe but luckily the carpet came in under budget!

DD currently has an Airsprung bed which has been excellent for last 14 years!!!

    Thank you for the advice

Are the drawers a must? If not that will save you some money.

If you do a bit of research and know what you're looking for then I don't think you really need to go try out the bed. Pocket sprung mattresses seem to be the best type for supporting your weight and the whole bed doesn't move if your partner gets up/into bed so you won't be disturbed. Memory foam is also good but pricey however whilst some folk rave about them, other folk can't seem to get used to them. Coil sprung mattresses are the ones to avoid.

I recently bought my bed from this seller on ebay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/hf4you and my parents have previously purchased 3 beds from them too. My bed was a 2000 pocket sprung one with 4 drawers and a free headboard for just under £400. They also offered next day delivery or a choice of day and there were no problems and the bed is very good - I'm very pleased. Various bed shops and Argos all wanted me to wait nearly a month for a bed and were all way more expensive.
Debt: Started at £4780, now at £4190 :)
Comp Wins 2014: None yet :(

Oh yes drawers essential as she has so much stuff:o

As bed is going against wall only want 2 drawers but want on same side to access them.

2 drawers on same side, that's a different kettle of fish.

Silentnight and Airsprung as most companies will only do 2 drawers on 1 half of a divan. IE 1 either side.

But the smaller lesser known companies WILL do drawers on 1 side. Restus, Deep Sleep, Dorlux and a few others.

So I should go for either end or 4 drawer. Opinions on this bed?

It's still only an open coil spring unit and a very firm one at that. Pocket springs are by far much better.
