So I have a severe problems with instruction manuals - they are all gibberish to me

Anyone care to tell me how to set up my digi box?

Tv has 3 scart sockets
Digi box has 2
Video has two

I want to be able to set them up so I can record from the digi. I did have one years ago but never sussed how to set it up to the video so just bye passed it. This time I want to do it right :)

Also do I set everything up to the same channel on the tv? Atm I press 0 once and get the dvd, twice get the video, three times get cable - is that right?

Hope someone can advise :)

Video SCARTs - have they got any labels? If so - how are they labelled?

i would plug dvd and digibox into tv via scart
then connect the vcr to digi via scart and that should do the job on my vcr for some reason i had to plug the digibox into my vcr's second scart socket.

not whether you can plug vcr into tv via scart as well - well you can but not sure whether there would be any benefit there.

thats what id do but its prob wrong :S

Does the Digibox have an RF Modulator?

If so then I would plug digibox, video and dvd via scart into TV and then plug the digibox RF output into the video aerial input.

    Thanks for the replies :)

The video scart sockets are labelled decoder/canal plus and euro av.

And the digi box does have a RF modulator whatever that is :)

Sometimes you really don't know how it's gonna turn out.

I only have one scart on my video but I wanted to be able to connect 3 things to it. I connected everything together temporarily just plugging my tv into the video - thinking I'd get a splitter later - but surprisingly I found everything is connected to the video now with a great picture

How it is working and what signal is being routed through what to get to the video is still a complete mystery to meicon7.gif

If you still can't work it out after help from on here too, try thinking about it in a different way. Look at the things that you have and what needs to join up to something else.

Eg: TV signal comes down through aerial so it needs to end up in the TV. If the aerial is going in to the video, it needs to come out of the video and end up in the TV. The RF modulator (RF lead is aerial lead) is probably an extra bit because of your extra digibox so it needs to be joined in somewhere. Perhaps you now need to get your TV signal (aerial) and stick it in to digibox and out of digibox and in to video and out of video and in to TV?

So it's in out in out, shake it all about (sorry couldn't resist!!)

I know what you mean by instructions and maybe my stuff is no help either but try to think of what things need to be joined to each other.

    QUOTE]

    Assuming that

    a) all the Scart sockets on the TV are for input (3's very generous) and
    b) you don't want to record from the DVD (assume not, due to copy protection etc)

    My personal view would be:

Digi box - Connect one of the SCART sockets to the TV, the other to the video (in the socket labelled "decoder", if that's the one you were describing earlier!).
DVD - Connect to the TV SCART socket
Video - Connect your two SCARTs, 1 SCART socket to Digibox (as above), other to TV SCART. Also, bring in RF connection from aerial to Video, then RF out from the Video to the aerial socket on the TV.
TV - (hopefully this aligns with above), 1 SCART direct from digibox, 1 SCART from DVD, 1 SCART from Video, RF from Video into aerial

You should be able to cycle through the selections on the TV by pressing 0 as you discussed, plus you can also tune your TV so Video comes up on a particular channel - though this will be lower quality than pressing 0.

To record from your digi box, you'll have to RTFM, sorry, get the manual out, and see how you tell it to select the source as the AV input rather than a particular TV channel.

    Hope this helps!
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

Generally the Digibox will have "loop through" so that you don't need the connection from the VCR to the TV as the output from the VCR will go through the Digibox to the TV. You'll still be able to record from the digibox.

So the leads will be as follows

TV to DVD player : Scart
    TV to Digibox : Scart
    Digibox to VCR : Scart.

This will leave a free Scart socket on both the TV & VCR

BTW which of the TV Scarts can take a RGB signal (look in the TV manual).

If 2 then connect the DVD player & Digibox to these and leave the other one unused & setup both the Digibox & DVD player to output a RGB signal. This will give you better pictures. If you only have one, then you'll have to decide which is more important.
