DRO Wrong Balance Advice Required Please!!

Hi,

I was accepted for my debt relief order this week, before it was submitted on the day I rang creditors and got up to date balances, these were submitted. My DRO was granted the next day, this morning I received a statement from one of my creditors and it seems the day I rang up for the balances that evening they updated the balance and now one of my amounts is wrong, it is only out by about £9 I actually added extra to the balance in case of charges, so now what do I do?

I am so annoyed  I asked on the phone was the balance correct for the day and they said yes, no mention of charges being added the end of the day. I know I am not supposed to make payments when the DRO has been granted, but I am afraid now the balance is wrong the company will add charges and interest to the £9 owed and then I will be back to square one again. The creditor is a catalogue and we all know how they like to add on the £12 charges.I am going to ring the insolvency service to ask but they are not there until monday, and I feel anxious about this now, has anyone else been in a similar position who could advise me,
any answers or advice greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

If I was in your position, I would call the company who you owe the extra £9 too and tell them the entire dent has been entered into the DRO.

Assuming that the extra £9 doesn't push you over the 15k limit, I would wait a month (I believe they have about a month to dispute it of they think it's wrong). Then call the company you owe cash too in a month and confirm that the entire debt is noted of being on a DRO now. Keep records of your phone call, time of call and who you have spoken too.

If they send you a notice for charges added (which they would have to do!), then call and argue it with them at worst, pay the £9.

The insolvency team aren't about to throw it out for a £9 charge. Halifax did a similar thing to me, I got the balances for my overdraft, and it then added on £31 of charges. I told them they I stated I was going into a DRO and asked for a final figure and enough was enough. They dropped the £31 charges.

You'll be ok, I'm a stressy person too, but these things are ok. £9 isn't going to change your circumstances.

    Thanks coinxoperated,

I think I will still ring the insolvency service monday and explain the situation and see what they say. I am happy to pay the £9, I just don`t know if I am able to and if it is then not paid that the company could add charges onto the £9 owed, I am so annoyed all this stress and hassle over £9.

Who did you set it up through? If it was someone like CCCS or CAB, I would call them first. Try not to get too stressed, I know its easier said then done, but nobody died of owing 9.00. You'll be ok :)

Yes I did set it up with CCCS, I think you are right I will give them a call first and see what they say, hopefully the slight difference in balances will not cause too many problems. I will update the thread when I know something new. Thanks again for your replies. :)

If I am right in what you say you don't need to do anything.
Day 1 - you get balances, call CCCS have application submitted
    Day 2 - Order Approved
Day 3 or later - balance increases?

Your creditors can add interest and charges onto your balances just in case your DRO is revoked during the 12 month moratorium. If you complete the DRO then the entire debt will be written off. It was the balance on the day of submission that needed to be declared, and you did, so it's fine.

Just an update to my previous post I rang the insolvency service regarding the difference in balances, spoke to a lovely man who explained everything he said that I would be liable for the difference. I asked him if I could pay it straightaway he said that was fine, as long as I only paid the difference and no more, so I have paid the difference and now my balances are correct. He told me I did the right thing in ringing them first to check what I was able to do and if I had any questions or problems in the future just to give them a ring which is comforting to know. Apparently this happens to alot of people, they give balances and they update them the same day and it leads to a slight difference. Hope this helps someone who may be in a similar position in the future.

Thanks to those who gave me help and advice.
