Why the hell would you want to get a TV from Comet in the first place just to save £40 , they are doing you a favour go to RicherSounds and also get one of there very cheapo warrantys if needed and far better customer service
  • Because the nearest store to me is a 60 mile round trip, whereas my Comet store is just around the corner, I purchased it at 5pm last night and hubby didn't want to have to wait another week until we have a day off together!

Besides, I've always found Comet (my local one anyway) to be fantastic on cust service, I know that if I have a problem, they will sort it out for me!

I work at the Comet store in Warrington (but am leaving at the end of this week, when I will be burning the vile orange shirt they force me to wear) and the deal you'll get with price promise seems to vary from manager to manager. When I first started at Comet 5 months ago the manager was very tightfisted when it came to discounts as any discount given affects the managers bonus in some daft confusing way I really don't get. He left before christmas and moved to the Wigan store, and the new manager is completely different. He can be talked into giving discounts on pretty much any big spend, and sometimes on smaller purchases too.

A quick tip as well, if you're making a big purchase such as a large screen TV and don't have a specific one in mind, a good thing to look out for are discontinued items. The discount varies on each item but a couple of weeks ago we had a 42 inch LCD TV with 40% off, bringing it down to £450, which was an incredible bargain. If not for the fact I only earn £5.40 an hour and still live at home I'd have bought it myself....

I have found Comet better than Currys,Dixons or PC World.

I returned a remote I bought as it wouln't work with my Technomate sat receiver and the guy gave me a refund no problem. He said when I bought it take it back if it doesn't work with that model of sat receiver.

And I once bought a reconditioned OnDigital box from Comet and there was no Scart lead inside when I took it to the car and checked the contents, and when I went back and saw the manager he gave me one from another box as the one from my box had been taken.

I bought a few years back a camera from Currys and took it back within 7 days as it wasn't very good and they said when I bought it I could return it within a week if I didn't like it,but they also gave me a free shrink wrapped CD about taking pictures and as I'd taken it out of the shrink wrap and even though it was nothing to do with that specific camera they said they couldn't take the camera back as the CD was no longer shrink wrapped.

That's Currys idea of customer service.

What they don't realise is that it stops you buying anything else from them.

I tend to buy online now as well rather than shops.

    Another tale of Comet sense!

Ordered video camera online as they were 85quid cheaper than anyone else. Waited and waited for delivery, surprise, didn't arrive on day stated.
Rang customer "services" to be told they never have had stock of said item!
Quoted text from website that promises ordering system is "live" so order cannot/willnot be placed if no items in stock, operator VERY unhelpful. Only recourse was refund BUT she stated it would take 3-5 days as that was "the policy"!!

Quick call to credit card company and Comet are back on phone within ten minutes saying the operator was mistaken about refund policy and money had already been returned to c.card.

Having mentioned compensation to c.card co for funds held by comet for two weeks they suggested writing to chief exec. at head office and making sure letter was marked "CC to xxxx Mastercard"

Result! £20 cheque as gesture of "goodwill" and pathetic explanation that with a "live ordering system" mistakes can sometimes happen as stock "comes and goes" so quickly!

Took the money and ran as clearly as a retailer of high tec they have a very poor understanding of how an e-commerce and stock management system should work.
Fiscally responsible or just a tight git? :

One problem with Comet online is if an item doesn't arrive they want to give you a tracking no and get you to contact the courier to find out why it's missing.
I think it's Comet's job to find out why the customer didn't get the package.

Why not just make out that Comet would match it and maybe Richer Sounds would off some discount, hopefully they wouldn't check and just do it.

I'm not sure what makes Comet think that RS only sell refurbs. Comet are muppets anyway, the staff don't know anything technical, I've had quite a bit of fun in the Bedford store asking awkard technical questions, they look so lost and go all red lol

To be fair if you have some people in there working part time they can't learn everything about every product.
Trying to make them feel a fool isn't my idea of fun.

    From the Comet website

    Question

    Does Comet price match?

    Answer

We’ve been offering the best range of electrical products at the best prices for over 70 years.

    Always Low Prices

Not only do we give you the low prices you expect, we also check over 27,000 competitor store prices and 1000s of online prices every week to ensure our prices are always competitive. We constantly monitor the prices and services offered by the following major retailers to ensure you always get a great price:

    Argos
    Currys
    John Lewis
    PCWorld
    Tesco

    The Comet Price Guarantee

If you find a lower price from any of the retailers listed above or in a local store (within 10 miles of your nearest Comet store) that we have missed, let us know and we'll not only match that price, but also beat it by 10% of the difference. For purchases completed over the telephone, the store must be within 10 miles of your home post code area.

    14 Day Protection

Even after you’ve made your purchase, we won't stop protecting you. The Comet Price Guarantee applies for up to 14 days after you've made your purchase with us. We'll not only match the price, but also beat it by 10% of the difference.

    This Applies

    Provided the following rules apply:

The product must be pristine (boxed and sold as new).
It must be in stock and available for immediate delivery.
We must be able to verify the offer either by written evidence (e.g. advert, quotation, dated screen print) or verbally from our competitors.

    We Do Not Match

Any other online electrical retailers other than those listed, as none are able to match the full range of Comet services.
Product prices offered by warehouse clubs or any retail club requiring membership.
Any short term or voucher promotions, whether online or in a store
Mail order and internet companies, other than those listed.
Warranty prices, as no competitor’s warranty is directly comparable to our own.

so they have removed Dixons from there list???
