Comet Price Promise Disappointment

I thought I would let all you savvy shoppers know about my disappointing experience with Comet today should you be considering taking them up on their Price Promise.
Basically, I saw a Plasma TV from Richer Sounds for £1200 (in store only and brand new and boxed), but in Comet it was £1600. Having previously taken them up on the Price Promise I asked again as I would get a matching price plus an extra 10% off.
The assistant said that I could not have a match as store had to be within 10 miles (I informed him the other store was 7 miles away). He then said Richer Sounds was a 'Category B Store' and therefore ineligible (Category A was Argos, Dixons, PC World etc, yet their website states these and 'any local retailer') and that, to be honest, £400 was too much of a discount.
Came home, rechecked my facts on their website and called Customer Services. The person there seemed surprised by the 3 excuses, but she called the store in question and came back to say that they would not honour the promise as Richer Sounds sells reconditioned goods and as a result the promise did not stand even though the item in question was brand new and boxed.
So there you have it. A total of 4 excuses not to keep their Price Promise and one unhappy customer who not only will think twice about shopping with them, but felt the need to share it with thousands of other customers.
Well Done Comet !

that makes comet sense:rotfl:
They seem to be able to do whatever they like0 -
think they are going downhill bigtime thier store in cribbs (bristol) is like a library all the time.
The glass is always half full, no exceptions !!:D0 -
They will have their wits about them and have VERY carefully worded terms and conditions with lots of get out clauses on their part. Beats me why anyone would spend that much on a telly at all! Go into Richer sounds and haggle! Their extended warranties are the best value on the high street.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Price promises always make me laugh - if I find it cheaper elsewhere, don't THEY deserve my business?
If somewhere else is willing to give a further 10% on top then I can see the incentive but generally if I find the cheapest price, THAT'S the place I will be getting it from.0 -

 True: I always have Argo with these bunch of sharks who are alway's trying to shaft the average Joe.....But were not average Joe's on this site. That is why i love it when we give em pay back and nab all their mega deals with every discount chucked in for good measure and take it back for a refund if were not 100% happy.
Shine on you crazy diamonds:D :TWe are the change we wish to see.0 -
From the Comet website
Question
Does Comet price match?
Answer
We’ve been offering the best range of electrical products at the best prices for over 70 years.
Always Low Prices
Not only do we give you the low prices you expect, we also check over 27,000 competitor store prices and 1000s of online prices every week to ensure our prices are always competitive. We constantly monitor the prices and services offered by the following major retailers to ensure you always get a great price:
Argos
Currys
John Lewis
PCWorld
Tesco
The Comet Price Guarantee
If you find a lower price from any of the retailers listed above or in a local store (within 10 miles of your nearest Comet store) that we have missed, let us know and we'll not only match that price, but also beat it by 10% of the difference. For purchases completed over the telephone, the store must be within 10 miles of your home post code area.
14 Day Protection
Even after you’ve made your purchase, we won't stop protecting you. The Comet Price Guarantee applies for up to 14 days after you've made your purchase with us. We'll not only match the price, but also beat it by 10% of the difference.
This Applies
Provided the following rules apply:
The product must be pristine (boxed and sold as new).
It must be in stock and available for immediate delivery.
We must be able to verify the offer either by written evidence (e.g. advert, quotation, dated screen print) or verbally from our competitors.
We Do Not Match
Any other online electrical retailers other than those listed, as none are able to match the full range of Comet services.
Product prices offered by warehouse clubs or any retail club requiring membership.
Any short term or voucher promotions, whether online or in a store
Mail order and internet companies, other than those listed.
Warranty prices, as no competitor’s warranty is directly comparable to our own.0 -
I purchased a TV from Comet yesterday, and noticed their price promise. I also went to Currys, where the same TV was 1p cheaper.
When I checked the price promise, as post above, they will pay 10% of the difference, NOT the difference plus 10%!0
