    If you have started a claim, then subsequently decide to stop it, your insurer may have already started on progressing the claim and incurred costs which at the very least you would have to refund if you decided to deal with the claim yourself (eg via a claimhandler/MIB/direct with third party) in order to keep the claim a non fault one as far as your insurer is concerned.
