Hi all,
Looking for some help here before I throw my laptop out of the window!
The cd rom drive does no longer play cds/dvds. It doesn't appear in the control panel list of drives.
I installed itunes previously and it has not worked since. I have uninstalled itunies and done a system restore.
When I go into device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to my cd rom drive. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
Nothing works!
Please help :-)
Thanks

Hi Stacey,
I did computer report for laptop company for about 4 years and by the sounds of it you've experienced a driver loss. As already said it should be easy to resolve. Simply download the drivers that correspond to your cd player and right click the yellow exclamation mark. Click drivers and update button. If you automaticaly search it should find the driver you downloaded. This should sort things.0 -
Thanks for your help guys - dl the software and nothing has happened -
exact message I get when updating is:
Cannot continue the Hardware Update Wizard
The wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the one you already have.

Also says Code 41 if that helps?:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0

This is a known issue with old version of iTunes and cd-rom drives doing this.
You could try the following:
Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click)
Find "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" (and "UpperFilters.bak" "LowerFilters.bak", if they exist) value under the following key in the registry, and delete it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\!!4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Quit Registry Editor.
Reboot.
NOTE: You might need to reinstall any CD recording apps you have, if they start to not work completely, after doing this.
