Has anyone got any ideas for a memorable fun holiday for me and my 11yr old daughter? She starts secondary school soon so I wanted a nice holiday for us both in August 1 week for £1k. I'm mainly looking for ideas don't mind beach, city, activity or total relaxation I know it's really broad but any ideas would be appreciated

Albufeira, Portugal, 3 hours from the UK, nice beaches, loads of English speakers, nice locals ad plenty to do, I recommended the Zoomarine Algarve its an animal water and attraction park. I am 23 now and didn't want to leave it last year, I went with my family, two younger boys and a younger sister and my parents said it was affordable and everyone had a great time. You would be able to do a week easy for you two for way less than £1000."All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered, the point is to discover them."

I think I'm looking for something different we've done beach holidays and camping (I love camping but have only done it in the uk as I don't feel very safe camping abroad) not really interested in going anywhere touristy either (an idiot abroad did it for me! :-) )
I've heard of PGL activity holidays in the uk has anyone been? Is there anything like this abroad? I just want something different and exciting0 -

Hi OP, PGL holidays are for kids only, kind of like "camp", hence the name Parents Get Lost!0 -

Memorable for an 11 year old?
How about Istanbul, find a hotel somewhere in the old part, or near the tram routes.
Loads to see and a real mix of east and west cultures.

A few years ago, four of us (two adults and two teenagers) spent a week in Switzerland for a total cost of 800 pounds. We used the wonderful Swiss railway system to see lots of spectacular scenery: travel passes (including buses as well) are reasonably priced, and free for children travelling with an adult. The "Swiss card" (travel pass) also includes free or discounted access to museums and historical sites, cable cars... Food and accommodation can be pricey, but you can rent a self-catering apartment from a private owner for much less than the cost of staying in a hostel: I used an agency called Interhome.0

OP, maybe something like this would suit?

my work colleague has just come back from Barcelona and Valencia, from what he said about Barcelona and the coastal route train from Valencia to Barcelona, it sounds ideal for me and my 11-year old DD
. Beaches in and around Barcelona, lots of lovely parks and buildings etc to see in the city itself, best of both worlds really by the sounds of things. 0 -
Looked into cruising? Great enviroment for kids and single people, safe , fun and your meet some simialar people on board. A cruise round eastern med for example around greece, turkey, italy, would be a very memorable trip for any body.0

Nope, they do "family active" holidays as well, we went a few years ago to the one in Shropshire, was excellent. Looks like they do them abroad as well...19lottie82 wrote: »Hi OP, PGL holidays are for kids only, kind of like "camp", hence the name Parents Get Lost!
