I recently purchased a camera for £161 from a web based retailer who gave a lead time of despatch of between 1-4 days and delivery within 8 days.
On contacting the retailer they advised me that the lead time could not be met I advised the retailer that this was not acceptable they advised me to cancel the order which i did.
I have heard and read on the internet that the company I am dealing with has a bad reputation and it is very difficult to get a refund from.
My intention is to follow the companies refund policies ( I have been advised the refund will take 7 days from confirmation of the cancelation).
My question is, if the company does not refund my money after a reasonable amount of time and effort can I claim my money back through my credit card under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 section 75?.
The company involved trades under its own name and also through sites such as Amazon and Ebay.

Yes, you'll just have to print out and send the confirmation and cancellation email to the card company and provide details on any other correspondence you've had which may all be emails.0

The devil is in the detail.
How did you pay? Directly on their website (s75 applies) or via Paypal or some other third party (s75 doesn't apply) ?0 -

Thank you, I have already started to gather the required info to support any claim against my credit card.0 -

Paid direct to their own web site with my credit card.0 -
Your bank will probably want todo a chargeback, at least initially, I think this should be fine even though they are reliant on the retailer accepting, section 75 would be the next stage.0

On line photographic suppliers seem to be very bad for doing this sort of thing.
I am looking to buy a new lens and have spent several days going through the details of a number of dealers. It is blatantly obvious that some of them - one in particular, are themselves doing large numbers of highly favourable fake reviews on review sites to give the impression of being somebody worth dealing with. This one website also gives 3% discount if you pay by BACS (VERY highly praised in most of the reviews !!) - zero chance of you getting anything back there, I would say.
It almost makes you go to those dealers with poor reviews because at least you know those are probably honest reviews !!0 -

Thank you for your reply, I went with this company as I thought that as they trade through sites like Amazon and Ebay that they would be ok.
I am hoping that they do refund me with the minimum of hassal.
I have bought many things from the internet over the years and have had no problems, but this has dented my confidence somewhat.
I think it will be a trip to the local shops to buy my replacement camera.0 -
There are some extremely reputable photographic retailers out there who have been doing online business for years and are excellent - Wex and Park Cameras immediately spring to mind, I have used them over many years with no issues at all. There are a lot of others who are not that great though, as you have probably found out. I have tried to support local photographic shops but their dismissive, sniffy, clouldn't care less attitude means I get all my photographic stuff online now. Hope you get sorted - luckily you paid by cc.0

As I said in an earlier post I was looking for a new lens.
I bought it from Clifton Cameras, who I have used several times in the past.
Price was good (but not the cheapest), I got the full 3 yr warranty, they also have a shop you can visit with knowledgeable staff; I ordered it at 1130 on Monday it was delivered (by Royal Mail) at 1000 on Tuesday.
What more can you ask for ?0 -

I think I probably know who you mean - does it share a name with the creator of MSE perchance? I think most of their stock is grey import and they list it as in stock even when they don't actually have it.
I ordered a lens from them once and then changed my mind after they contacted me to say it was going to take a while. I asked if it was being imported so they said yes. I cancelled the order via email specifically mentioning warranty concerns and they refunded the money no problem (debit card iirc), did take a bit of time but not too bad
Most of my camera related purchases end up on amazon now..0
