You should maybe consider putting a review on Trip Adviser. I recently changed a hotel booking due to Trip Adviser reviews stating there was a problem with bed bugs and some evidence of vermin!

Yes I've thought about this, but I'm tempted to contact the hotel directly first to give them a chance to sort things out themselves. Everything else about the hotel was great and they would have had a 5 star review from me otherwise!

Don't want to alarm you but sounds like you may have transported them home with you if the bites are continuing you need to hot wash all the clothing that was in the case and all bedding.

"Abroad" is quite a large place -could you be more specific -certain places do have a reputation for bedbugs -New York springs to mind although personally I've never come across a single one there.

Despite having stayed in some very dodgy places in Asia the only accommodation where I got bitten by bed bugs was indeed New York. I echo Duchy's advice to hot wash everything that you had with you, and anything that may have become infested since your return.

    Hi

Thanks for all the responses! I'll try and answer all questions (not got the hang of the quoting for more than one post!)...

-Apparently they can take a week to show, so this doesn't necessarily mean I've infected my home, but I' spent all yesterday washing everything on the hottest wash I could and will look out for signs of anything here!

-Not gnats/midges as there was nothing at all flying around the hotel room or even in the area (downtown Vancouver), ditto mosquitoes. I've travelled a lot to places where these creatures are very common and the bites are very different. I'm really trusting my own judgement on this one, and the doctor confirmed that they look more like bed bug bites than anything else she has seen (I guess they could be fleas, I'll look out for these too in case they've hitched a ride back with me!)

I think that answers everyone. Sounds like there's not really a lot I can do in terms of a refund, as I thought. On the bright side, the bites only affecting me now means it didn't ruin the holiday itself!

I guess it's a risk we all take when staying in hotels!

The bites have calmed down a lot this morning (still all there, but very much less swollen! More like spots than massive blotches now, much easier to cover up :))

Thanks again for all the responses :)

It is the bed and surrounding areas you need to treat. Make sure you hoover your bed and any nooks and crannies around.Around skirting boards etc.If you have a steam cleaner use this as well.

There are videos on you tube showing you where to look for signs of them and how to deal with them.

Thank you! Oh what a fun weekend I have ahead of me! The last thing I want is to have this happen again so I really appreciate the advice :)

:)Yes but just think how super clean your bedroom will be and all the dust mites you will be getting rid of as well!!

Forgot to say check your suitcases and bags, they may have hitched a ride in there!!
