Any suggestions on my next car?

This may not be the best place to post something like this but people on here are usually helpful whatever the question so figure I've got nothing to lose :) I also can't seem to find a forum dedicated to these types of questions (couldn't see anywhere on Whatcar or parkers that I could ask).

I've been driving a Ford Mondeo Estate '04' reg for the past couple years and I've decided I'd like to pick up a new car (not necessarily new just 'new' for me) but really not sure what I want.

All I know is I'd like it to be an 'automatic' and roomy enough that should I have children over the next few years I won't have to rush out to replace it. I also listen to podcasts through a headset on my phones so it'd be nice to stream them over bluetooth to car audio system but I imagine this kind of thing can be added easily enough right?

I don't do that much driving, covering about 18 miles per day (roads, not motorways) for work and back as well as drives to parents, friends, etc clocking up a total of about 160 miles a week. Not sure whether diesel or petrol would suit me better for that or not.

I have no real interest in shape or size so long as it meets my criteria above. Have 7 years no claims so hopefully insurance won't be too big of an issue either. Budget will be anything from 4k to 8k maybe going 10k for something really special!

I'm 26 if that makes a difference on any suggestions (trying to anticipate what people may ask!) Oh and I'm about 6'1 tall.

Hope somebody can help :)

More a question of personal taste in this case than anything else.

Your mileage could be arguably suitable for different petrol & diesel cars.

Parkers.co.uk has all the technical information and specs, including fuel economy.

My opinion is that you can't go wrong with German. Generally a massive leap in quality for all measureable areas.

I would have thought a newer Mondeo would fit the bill.

Skoda Octavia L&K DSG £8k will get a good one.
No DPF on the 1.9pd or 2.0pd diesel 1.8 petrol sweet spot but not quite as economical

For more luxury and masive legroom and If you don't need hatch/estate

Mk1 Superb 1.9pd for more comfort, check for water ingress the auto not so economical. Elegance, Edition 100 or L&K.
  • As stupid as it sounds I didn't even consider a newer Mondeo!

Thanks for the suggestions too getmore4less. Lot's of acronyms in there though!!! :) Doesn't necessarily need to be a hatchback (would like to avoid an estate too) so will check out the Skodas.

Vw passat. It will not depreciate as fast as others.
I agree with the other Skoda post aswell.
I worked on the bodywork of a Skoda superb 3.6 4x4 elegance last week.
    Awesome car!
Granted you won't want the 3.6 engine. But consider the diesel.
I'll put some pics of it on my website later this week, I'm a car detailer.
