Why not? You clearly need a facility if you're not paying attention to your financial affairs.

No. If you want to know why, then see your account T&Cs, price list, and fair fees policy...

To provide a service. After all, they perhaps thought you were 'desperate' for the shopping you bought online...rather than simply being lax with your finances?

If they charge you for being £2.76 overdrawn and then rectifying it on the same day I would be surprised.

You would no doubt be able to get the fee refunded by making a phone call.

I also suggest you get a small overdraft or buffer zone of about £200 or so in case it happens again.

The reason that they allowed you to go overdrawn is that small amounts don't always get checked in real time. They have issued you with a proper debit card and trust you to use it.

It would be a bit harsh for them to reject the payment for such a small amount.

(except if you had a basic bank account)

Is there any need to be so rude?

I'll answer your question with a question...

    Hi,

    Can anyone advise me please?
I had a £50 overdraft for years with hsbc then a couple of months ago they sent me a letter saying they were going to charge me £25 a year for this priviledge, i thought sod that and cancelled immediately.
Stupidly last week I went overdrawn, i'm a single parent who works part time and lost some wages last month as my son was ill so I had to stay off work, basically it got to a few days before payday and i had no money left but needed food. I have now noticed on my online banking that hsbc are going to charge me £50 for going overdrawn. I can't afford this, if they take it then I'll end up going overdrawn next month too and it's just going to keep happening, is there anything i can do about it? It's the first time I've been over any agreed limit in about 5/6 years!

Thank in advance for any advice (except be more careful with money because i simply don't earn enough!! ;))

In answer to the £50 overdraft post, HSBC are usually very good with first time offenders. I've had it happen to me before (totally my fault) and they cancelled the fee's as a gesture of good will.

I would stress however that if you are a repeat offender not to expect much from them, but then who can blame them!?

I must say having banked with most of the big high street's HSBC are one of the best. Their customer service is first class and everything just works exactly how it should!

Ok this is simple as you only "brought" the items home you should be fine, if you had "bought" the items then you may have gone overdrawn.

Sorry its late and could not resist, strike me down. On a lighter note you should be fine as it was sorted on the same day.
Google gives you answers use it.........
