As it says today the missus put twenty pound in but the gauge has not moved and the miles left in the tank fluctuate between 58 and 63

Is there a reset button or method or will it need to go to a garage for investigation?

As always help and guidance is appreciated

  • does the fuel read out tell you its zero constantly even when you know theres more than say half a tank.

if so it will be the fuel sender unit in the petrol tank, or the speedomoter cluster fault.

I had the same problem with my 02 Picasso, that was the sender unit that was faulty......couldnt be ar5ed to swap it so just made sure I reset the mileage trip meter everytime I filled up, used to average 500 miles on a full tank.

The fuel sender unit is probably very easy to change (Was under a plastic flap under the rear seats on my old Peugeot 306, required only a screwdriver to undo the two jubilee clips on the fuel pipes to get it out).

Might be worth getting a Haynes manual and nipping to your local scrappy if you feel confident enough to do it?

Was it very empty? Running on fumes? If so my Astra does it as well unless I put in over half a tank. It is weird.

You might not have put enough in for it to re-read the tank contents.

Citroen's have an odd gauge system. It doesn't constantly read the tank contents. It reads it once then works out the usage and deducts it and only re-reads if the difference is more than 10 litres or so... Try filling with more fuel and see if it then gives a true reading before you replace any parts.

My Citroen is LPG hence I know how it works as my gauge goes down even though I am not using petrol. It eventually re-reads the tank and resets itself.
