Accidental damage claim refused

What ho one and all,
Trying to sound chipper when I am actually cheesed off.
My laptop never leaves home and i use it as my one and only machine. I knocked it off the coffee table and have knackered it. Not to worry, I thought, as I have accidental damage cover.
I made a claim through Budget Insurance, and this went to axxa, who turned it down as i am nor covered for portable items. I went back to Budget, who told me that the problem is that, even though I never take it out of the house, i should have said on the price comparison site that i wanted cover for a laptop away from home!
The nice lady did point out that Compare theMarket state this explicitly- I went through Go Compare, who don't.
I will be initiating a complaint against Go Compare. What do you think my chances are?
btw, apparently ipads etc are not covered under this rule either, so bear that in mind

How much to repair? How much is your excess?0 -
My contention is that my laptop is not a portable item in my house, as I do not use it in any other location. Apparently Compare the Market to point this out explicitly that cover for laptops away from home is needed, even if Ionly use it in the one place in my home... Go Compare do not. Therein lies the murky confusion.
If you have an ipad and drop it, but haven't asked for laprop cover away from home, it is like you won't be covered either0 -

It has knackered the motherboard, affecting the display and network adaptor... who knows how much that is0 -

A laptop is a portable item by design. If you only used your mobile in one place, it would also still be a portable item!0 -

I understand that, but i was asked if i wanted accidental damage cover. When the laptop question came up, it should have pointed out that this is needed if ever you want to claim for it, even if it is used as a desktop substitute.0 -

Back to FlameCloud's question - what does it say in the terms and conditions? You are given the opportunity to read these before taking out the policy.0 -
Does your policy document actually use the term 'portable item'?0
-
To answer to posts at once...
The policy does have an exclusion for portable items. As for the terms.. i will double check... go compare certainly does not... didn't see the exception when i purchased the insurance0 -
its 100% portable as it does not have to be connected to the mains to work, you may find it cheap to repair as ports / graphics chips are cheap, labout about £60Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
