EDF - pleasant surprise!

Have just checked the bills; the information on usage is at the very bottom of page 3, it is in box (quite small). Funnily enough on working them out the electricity is spot on, I multiplied the daily usage by the unit cost, added the standing charge per day and x 365/12 and it came out at exactly the figure they are stating. However, they appear to have under-estimated the gas over the forthcoming year based on their daily usage figure, so have reduced the DD by too much - never mind will catch up at some point.
It's quite a lethal combination though for those on very tight budgets.
The reductions can often lead to complacency and we have all benefited from a mild winter period. You are obviously reasonably well versed and monitor your usage, but even you have now realised EDF's pleasant surprise may have a sting in the tail.
What I (and others) have been doing is to campaign for the information which is defined by SLC27 to be produced. EDF haven't been doing it. Some of us believe it is because when it is finally revealed it will not be robust. It should stand basic scrutiny.
EDF are a huge multinational company and they should be the experts in this and abide by the regulations. They have been riding roughshod over these issues and the resulting complaints. It is coming close to the time where I believe they will brought to account.
Were you able to scan in your details? It would be very useful to pursue our complaints.0 -
We went to EDF when they had the big Quidco referral payment and £80 discount, last month they tried to up my DD, we owed about £240 following the winter and now everything is off they will be getting that back before the winter comes and then we will have a credit - however, they wanted to UP our DD payment by another £80 a month to £195 a month.
I sent them a message via 'my account' saying that if they took that new payment I would be switching to someone else the next day, I told them the debt would more than be paid by the time the winter starts and that we would be showing a creidt!! A weeks later they emailed to apologise for the 'oversight in increasing our payment' and told me that the DD has been amended to back to what it was.
I wonder just how many people pay the 'oversighted payment' without question??0 -
Have you checked the meter readings on the bill? My meter was read by edf last week and I got a bill of £1200 in credit with monthly payments dropped by £200 (so they were repaying me over 12 months) I was a bit bemused as I have an aga and 2 central heating systems. Read meter myself and called it in. Today another bill comes. I owe then £1000- they are taking it in 1 lot (so no 12 month grace the other way) by dd in 2 weeks and monthly payment up £70.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -

Yes the meter readings were correct - always check them as soon as the meter man leaves;)Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

What is SLC27?
Will try and sort out scanning this bit of the bill in, but sorry it won't be this evening. If you have received a bill from them or go into your online account, it should be in the same place as on my bills.
I have had two bills from them now - one early January and one last week. Like I said before, I won't put in a reading online.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

In this respect Standard License Condition 27.14 states:27.14 The licensee must provide to each such Domestic Customer an explanation in clear, plain and intelligible language of the basis upon which a fixed amount (and any variation of that fixed amount) has been determined.
My bill had a revised DD amount but no explanation.
I asked for one several times. It wasn't provided. They claim they did not have to provide it. That is why your evidence is so useful.
I have asked the Energy Ombudsman to adjudicate.0 -

They always try it on, if you want to spread it, they will back down. Just be careful the t&c's don't add charges in for you.
Getting to the bottom of the yo-yoing is likely to reveal errors on their part.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
