could u please pm me a list aswell never good at keeping stock i am one of those that run out of everything by the sun morning thanks in advance the mcfedries family.
ps do u double up on most things?reason getting changed from paid fortnightly to monthly and we are going to struggle unless i start now before deal goes through:j
Gayle, I tend to have at least two of everything unless something was on offer or so low in price where you may get four tins of tomatoes but items like that can be used in so many meals and most items can strill be eaten after the best before date. I've been eating Country Life Butter dated March until a few days ago, it tasted fine.

I have definately got a fairly good store of things to use,I also have a large shelf unit in the garage for things like bleach, kitchen towel, kitchen cleaners etc.
I menu plan most weeks and as I love cooking I nearly always cook from scratch.

I buy large sacks of potatoes and use Costco for rice etc.
I remember my ex-mother in law did'nt even have salt and pepper in the house let alone spices/mixes of any kind.
But her idea of lunch was a Pot Noodle each...seriously(even Sunday Lunch)

I have lots of quick stuff in the store cupboard but still manage fruit, frozen veg and and a reasonable amount of fresh items but I now often cheat by mixing ingredients for quickness and cost...

I'd like to cook a joint of meat but would never use it all so I would use sliced meat(portion say two slices 60p)a portion of frozen veg or fresh 20-30p, Potatoes approx 30p portion and perhaps a couple of Yorkshire puds just to heat up 20p, a little gravy from granuals 10p.

That's approx £1.30 and most of it is reasonably healthy. Sometimes my meals cost less...That way I have avoided having the oven on for long but now I have a combi microwave and a halogen oven too which they say uses less power.

This thread has made very interesting reading.

In the past I didn't see the point of having a store cupboard, what with having Asda, Tesco, Lidl and the Co op all within walking distance.

And then came the riots of last year. All the shops closed....I mean all of them. The roads were closed and there were no buses or trains running in my area. Even if anything had have been open I would have been too afraid to go out.

So now I have a stock cupboard, just in case. I am trying to add to it at the moment in view of the fact that I live close to the Olympic park. I don't want to be unable to get supplies if there are road/station/shop closures due security issues.

Apart from the usual tins/packets/jars etc. I shall make sure that I have plenty of fags and gin in stock.

Love it! That would be my undoing - I don't stash cigs or wine  I couldn't afford to anyway, so if the SHTF I will be giving up both, not by choice!!!

re places for storage, behind the plinth under the kitchen cupboards. Good for long term storage. Anyone using that space?

I thought exactly that today - I have a loose plinth that frequently comes off so a great place to hide tins etc :D

Went for lunch with a friend and managed to sneakily convince her to stock up!

My emergency stash is tinned stuff mainly as I know it will keep for years - I'm afraid that unless there is a 'real' need, a lot of it will not get eaten as I dislike tinned peas, tinned carrots, tinned meat etc BUT in an emergency I am sure I will be grateful for them. Tinned ham with tinned peas and tinned potatoes would be a special feast for someone who had no food to eat.

I suppose I could 'hide' them from myself in sauces etc but I would know they were there :rotfl:

Forget who posted but am still giggling at the thought of archery lessons! (altho they would have the last laugh if they were able to protect their stash and mine got looted!!)

I suspect they'll keep at least until the expiry dates and they can be a year or two away.

You know I have tinned mushrooms, tomatoes, potatoes but have not thought about other tinned vegetables, something else for my list...

    that was me :p

being able to hunt could prove very valuable and lets face it if people are raiding camping good stores they aren't as likely to take the cross bows and arrows first

it's actually a really good way of stretching your muscles and building strength in them, a few people told me it helped them recover from serious back injury and i have constant lower back pain so if i can kill three zombies with one arrow why not :rotfl:
