Are items in a shed inc with insurance?

Reason ask is because I'm looking to renew our home insurane and was wondering if items in a shed are included in the home contents insurance?
In the shed we sometimes store a tent and other items we've bought with family members. With everything that's been bought it is a few hundred pounds..
Just wanted to know if shed etc were included in a policy?

Depends on the policy wording and the particular insurer. Some will include it, some won't and some will charge an extra premium for it. The problem with sheds is that they are very easy to get into, so insurers cover them with reluctance or a high premium.

Agreed, you need to check what is and isnt covered. The ones i generally use (ie not the cheapest), will have varying amounts of cover included in the premium.

This will usually pay out enough for some bikes and/or tools. They dont usually cover enough for high cost items (ie £1,000 bikes)

Don't store anything valuable in a shed?

I think mines worded with something like anything over £20 of value wont be covered on the standard policy.

I would need to list everything over that value at additional cost.

Lots of policies cover outbuildings and their contents up to a certain amount.

The insurer may require that the shed is on a permanent foundation and is kept locked.

Once you have had a few online quotes you can look more closely at any that you are interested in. There is usually a facility to look at the policy book online or you could ring them.

Check the excess fee that you choose - if the contents of the shed are worth a couple of hundred pounds and your excess meets or nearly meets this, then this type of cover would be redundant anyway.

Our policy covers one of our sheds but we have another shed full of the sons fishing gear which costs an extra £28 per year.
