New exhaust -insurance

We had a new exhaust put on the car because the old one was falling off. We forgot to tell insurers. It has been upgraded to stainless steel system and slightly sportier look. Will we be in trouble for not telling them? Do they ask for receipts and stuff when you tell them about upgrades?

  • i have been told by insurers that the only real things they need to be told about is when you have anything installed on the car which alters/improves performance/speed.

For example, my fella forgot to tell his insurance he'd put a different air filter and bigger wheels on his car. Lost control one night, flipped the car, and the insurance assessor wrote the car off without paying out due to misinformation.

Things like bigger wheels (affect handling), powerflow exhausts (£200 stainless steel performance exhaust) and engine modifications are what the insurers are really bothered about.
;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)
