Possibly not, but he might be if he had forgotten to declare his rental income and HMRC came calling.....

And ONLY THEN would it be time for the moral tax advice - until then why not try to stick to the questions at hand, cheers.

I would buy something I need and if there's nothing I need would put it in savings for emergency money.

Doesn't sound very convincing. Very easy for them to check and prove, any number of people to point them in your direction. So I would declare it before its too late (even though I loath giving this rotten Government my money.)

I'm sorry you don't believe me. I have, genuinely, filled my taxes already. Anyway, I've got 400 a month to spare...any suggestions on investing that would be great. Thanks.

How long do you want to save the money up for and how much risk are you prepared to take.

In a similar vein I'm taking a fairly agressive strategy with monthly ISA investing into UK small companies, emerging markets, and a bit of sanity with a balanced managed fund. My intention is for that to be long term and is a fairly small element in my overall scheme of things.
    IANAL etc.
