A 5-series is a big old car for town driving. How about just downsizing to a 3-series?

I have a VERY heavy right foot. I do all town driving, 90% of my trips are less than 3 miles. With a bit of duel carriageway to put my foot down.

I've tried being more eco, but I just go back to my old ways :(.

It isn't what you drive, but how you drive.

I like bigger cars, plus it was cheap for what it is, doubt I'll get the same spec for same money (and same condition).

Been looking at getting a 125 to get to and from work, will save £500 a year just in fuel.
Honestly this comes up a lot on biker forums and a car driver adding a bike to the fleet rarely results in a saving.

You still have the car to insure/tax/mot/maintain etc etc, now if you buy a bike as well, you've got the initial outlay of that, plus another lot of mot, tax, insurance, depreciation, maintenance and repairs, plus you've got the cost of jackets/trousers/helmet/gloves/boots/other biker gear etc, CBT, tests, the list goes on and on. You often don't get the 90mpg - 100mpg figure that's bandied about either, so that £500 fuel saving turns in to a £300 fuel saving, which doesn't really even cover the yearly cost.

IF you give up car ownership, and rely solely on the bike, that's different, that should result in significant savings, but if your keeping the car too, if you've saved a tenner by the end, of it you'll have done well IMO.

If you're going to do it, do it for the fun of it
BTW with a heavy right foot etc you will very quickly get tired of the 125cc I bet, and want to move up to a bigger bike, that's what happened to me and what happens to most people. And running a big bike isn't much cheaper than running a car.
