Looking for 40" Full HD tv on a tight budget

Options
Hi everyone im in the market for a new tv and i was looking at the Sharp LC40SH340 for £279.95 from Richer Sounds but i googled it and i read that its not a proper Sharp its just a rebadged tv from a Turkish firm and they dont tend to be brilliant. So ive been put off that a little bit.

I was hoping that i would be able to get that a BluRay Player and a stand plus take out the warranty which ive read good things about for about £400 or less if i could haggle with them.

My only other alternative is the Toshiba 40BV801 which is £299.95.

Does anyone have any experience of either of these TV's at all?

Any advice would be most helpful :)

I have no experience of any of the TVs you mention.

However, last year I did buy a 42 inch Panasonic plasma TV with integrated Freesat and Freeview plus a Panasonic Blu ray player, all for £400 on Ebay.

It was about 6 months old but in excellent “as new” condition. The seller had upgraded to 3D.

I was lucky that I got a bargain that I could collect locally and examine before parting with my cash.

Ebay and other sites are full of 2D TV bargains as people upgrade to 3D.

Have a look. You might be lucky too.

From personal experience I would avoid Sharp.

I had issues with one of their products and their response to my problems was very poor. I can't recall dealing with a company of that size before with such bad customer service.

At those prices both TV's are probably made in the same factory.

If you want a cheap TV take a look at the Hotdeals, not a recommendation, just a thought. Personally a Panasonic plasma is well worth the extra money, have two and also two smaller Sharp's LCD's but both actual made by Sharp, both fine.

At £400 including a blu-ray player and warranty, you're going to be getting budget crap mostly made in the same factories if you're hell bent on 1080p.

Also unless you're watching the TV from a distance of no more than 6 and a half feet, then you won't tell the difference between 720p and full HD. Google Lechner Distance Chart.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

In the end i decided to buy a 37" after measuring up the available space again.

I got a LG 37LK450U and stand from Richers Sounds for £379 and they guy let me have the warranty for nothing.

    So im happy with that
