Persisent offenders may be charged up to £150 per day

As well as a nice yellow sticker containing a Nottm Uni/Car Parking Partnership threat-o-gram placed on my car recently, an additional pink sticker was on the side window with this warning!

Can only assume this to be the result of so many people getting wise to these empty threats & letting them know it.

Seems a bit daft though, if people are ignoring unenforceable charges, they could state that you'd owe them £1,000,000 per day and it wouldn't get them an extra penny.

For those not in the know, I presume the Uni can demonstrate costs of £150 per day, in line with such a charge for trespass/contract breach?

Do they have a law department there?

Case law suggests that there need not actually be any loss for a landowner to pursue a tort in trespass. However, they cannot therefore claim anything other than their costs. But as you say, MR, £150 per day? How can that be a genuine pre-estimate?

Shottingham most certainly has a law department but then so does Lancaster. The presence of a law department doesn't seem to guarantee anything. The pursuit of alleged unlawful parking by way of clamping at Lancaster (based on a current case from pepipoo) suggests that they are not aware of more up-to-date case law than Arthur v Anker (so, Vine does not seem to figure on their radar - I mean its only been about for 12 years) and even then they don't seem to understand the detail of A v A, with regard to prominence of signage, anyway.

So if Lancaster is anything to go by then goodness only knows what could be happening at Nottingham.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

How can you be a persistent offender? Not paying a speculative invoice isn't an offence.

Do they think they are clampers or something charging £150 a day?

I would love to see one of those charges go to court, how they can justify the amount.

I must have a look when I take my DD there to look at the Uni. But I seem to recall they give the scammers a day off when it's an Open Day, that's what I found with my DS 2 years ago and I really wanted to see their signs but most Unis had covered them up for the day!

Hilarious that Nottm Uni have made up an extra pink sticker - how very scary (not)!

You'll be fine. I've been to quite a few open days recently, all the signs where clearly visible, and Nottingham Uni was no exception.
