Need a cheap camera for beach, waterproof.

Got to be good for sand and dipping in the waves, not bothered if a slightly older model from ebay but got to be decent.

so far I have:
Fujifilm FinePix Z33WP

Olympus Tough TG-810 but very pricey



Ideas please.

Finepix XP50 for value-for-money.

Nikon AW100 rather than the Olympus if you can afford a bit more.

I have one. It was just less than £70 with cashback, including a 2 year warranty.

The Nikon looks nice but a little more than i wanted to pay, the Ricoh PX does not look like it will stand up to the sand on the beach, but I may be wrong.

Ok further reading on the FinePix XP30 seems it has trouble with water ingress.

To be honest, I wouldn't actually recommend the Ricoh PX. You have to hold it at the edges otherwise light reflected off the tips of your fingers finds its way through the lens and causes slight flare on the image.

It was cheap and does the job but I wouldn't buy another one. The Fuji was my first choice but I was put off by the water ingress problem and by the sheer number of "used once" Fuji's being sold on eBay.

I would probably go for the Panasonic DMC-FT3 if I was buying again.

One of my main considerations when buying the Ricoh was price, as there is good chance of dropping the thing in the sea and never seeing it again.

A thing about cheap waterproof cameras is that they sacrifice general picture quality for the waterproof-ness.

Consequently, people take them on holiday and get home to find that their scenery shots are nothing like as good as "normal". The couple of dozen shots of the kids in the pool are fine, but the novelty has worn off, so they offload the camera and go back to their usual gear.

Another thing about them is that people do not do the necessary maintenance. Seals have to be replaced regularly to maintain water tightness. I certainly wouldn't buy second hand or "refurbished" (unless by original manufacturer with a suitable guarantee).

Seems I have settled on the Olympus tg 820 in red at a cost of approx £220.

Gets good reviews.
